Now from a not so uptodatemachinisttypeguy...is the 'chatter' you are talking about cosmetic?

Yes.
And it's extremely annoying, when the tool starts to vibrate which courses the chatter

which causes an uneven cut, although on the parts shown it is only on the outside- and with so much complexity I am not surprised. Looks like a very very nice part though!!

I have a feeling that even with chatter like this there would be a market if there was a discount  .

I'm cheap and its a runner so as long as the innards are good I'd be good-to-go  .

Endmill came in, looks like it'll work out perfect.

If this one lasts, I'll be getting a spare, and 2 of them in 5/16" as well. :)

Treehugger, did you get the box of joy yet?

And it broke on the 1st counterbore operation... But not on the full-depth 1/4" holes... same feedrate...

Looks like I'm ordering 2 more, and the 5/16" ones as well. Lead time is 2 weeks...

EDIT:
"Estimated delivery on Aug 10, 2011 - Aug 17, 2011" grr...

Nope, never even noticed it till opstop, the coolant flood is literally a flood...

Here's hoping Amazon gets their head outa their arse and ships that endmill...

I'm wondering if I had an adhered chip in the 3 flute from the previous operation, it's about the only thing I can think of.

I dropped the feed down to 17ipm from the 24 I was using before, and optimized the retract and clearances before I ran, ended up recouping the time lost by the feedrate drop.

I guess it's a case of the Mondays...

What was the rpm and depth of cut with the 24 ipm?
