I had good luck with all of the stock ballcups (the 40th was a different story), no popping off or slipping with the little AE wrench; once the turnbuckle rod had been threaded fully and backed out a bit, the stock cups adjusted very easily for me.
I re-read that ride height section of the new manual a few times last night, when they went from imperial to metric it threw me off the track entirely, I just gave up and set the ride height to nearly the top. I intend to drive this on unswept asphalt, so I need some ground clearance.
I'm guessing the NOS AE DS foam wheels are the same diameter as their rubber tires, but I may need to redo all the settings again when the foam wheels get here.
even after working mine in they still like to pop off of the ball studs when I try to adjust them on the car, which is a more than a bit annoying when you're trying to do an alignment. This is with the thread greased too! Have RPM ends on order. car need more color anyway.

I wish I can post a video that I have it was a dusty asphalt parking lot and it did very well, tires do need break in and conditioning like any other slick.

That's a great option with the F104 slicks, looks exactly right. They look like they would fit a lot easier in aftermarket body wheel wells.
F104 tire dimensions:
Front tire x 2pcs. (Item 54198) Dimensions = Width: 30mm, Diameter: 64mm.
Rear tire x 2pcs. (Item 54199) Dimensions = Width: 35mm, Diameter: 64mm.
I agree, those Tamiya F1 tires look great.
Although perhaps not accurate for a mid-'90's TA car, I prefer the look of both front and rear tires with the same diameter.
At 72mm, the DS kit rear tires are massive.
Also, Tamiya has a "soft" F104 front tire option: 51399. Same dimensions as 54198 except softer. Might help with understeer.

The stock tires are 72mm, the foams are about 66mm, for the rear. Same wheels with the rivets, just not chromed.
The fronts should be here in a couple of days.

FWIW, think I've found the wheels for my TA build...
With so much positive offset, it might require some extra wide hexes and bespoke axles to make them fit the DS.
They look thin and fragile and likely will crumple like a beer can if I hit a curb.

Those do look good. Fitting those with hex adapters would push them out pretty wide.

Front foam wheels made it today.
62mm, compared to 65mm rubber tires.
This all adds up to a lower ride height, unfortunately. Now I need to find a chassis skin, or some way to keep from dragging the tub.

While the ground clearance is less with the foam wheels, the foam wheels fit better in the stock wells, of an HPI 256mm wb.
The body is propped up and hovering over the chassis, if the front wheels didn't clear the wells, the body would be thrown off at this point.
The rear wheel wells might need to be trimmed a tiny bit, still testing, but the front foam wheels fit, but may require some trimming for the suspension range.
Will paint the black rims with Revell Chrome Spray, to lighten them up visually.

Mounted the front body posts in the holes in the front bumper, as specified in the manual. Want to be able to run the stock body too.
Drilled the front posts in the Bandit body, the foam wheels clear without any well trimming so far.
Going to try magnets in the rear on the Bandit body, it needs longer rear posts than the stock body does, hoping the magnets allow the use of both bodies with one rear post height setting.
I went with the 17.5T motor, as that and the 21.5T are said to be the only accepted choices for some racing classes (not sure about any of that), 17.5T seemed like a safe bet.
Lately was thinking about a faster combo, for top speed runs.
Using high-C 2S packs, would be about as fast as I can go for cheap. Going to get a set of larger, hardened steel pinions too, and maybe an inexpensive heat temp gun.
The RC top speed world record won't be set on any of my cars, but the record breakers are all using foam tires, because they don't balloon like rubber tires. Stoked to see what's possible with the new tech. Anything over 40mph would be exciting at this point, for me.
