That is an extreme example. Common sense would say it was a daft price. But even when you spend more sensible sums, ok 1/5th of that... you are still going to get burned big time when the re-res come. Look at current optima prices NIB. They are going to take a hammering some time. The writing is on the wall guys.

I guess I can sort of see where you're coming from; when I see people in this thread shouting "Optima next!", I cringe a bit, because I spent $400 restoring one last year, so seeing a $250 re-release would be kind of a bummer.

But on the other hand, I'm not a collector. I like to run my cars, and I really "baby" certain cars (like the Optima) because parts are so expensive. A minor crash could cost $100 and a month of searching for parts. If a car has been re-re'd, even if mine is an original, I can put it through its paces with a little less trepidation. It all depends on what you want from the hobby, I guess.

I'd like to see how they re-re the Optima, but I'm not really affected, investment-wise. My only more or less stock Optima is an original Gold Celebration chassis with several gold hop-ups I scrounged up over the years and I imagine that'll still hold it's value...not that it bothers me if it doesn't. All my others are modded, customized, modernized and nothing like either an original or a proposed Optima re-re.

So, bring it on, Kyosho!

Hmmm....if you are talking about exclusivity there are loads of rare 1/10 scale rc models with unique design features that are unlikely to resurface e.g. Hirobo who are now largely heli-based now and ayk who are sadly defunct. The way I see it is that we are only seeing rere from the key manufacturers of past and present and they appear to be calling to our generation - that probably reflects pricing too (not exactly entry level). No wonder Kyosho have joined in and expect Yokomo and Losi too!

Moreover, although I'm no expert I can't see the economic viability of kyosho or yokomo releasing most of their back catalogue...

So overall I think vintage 1/10 scale will retain a lot of exclusivity.

I've gone back to vintage 1/8 scale 1980s racers. Even the original market was niche. Most people today couldn't even name the vintage 1/8 cars before the Burns and 99.9% didn't own them. So there is zero chance of any re-release rip offs. Exclusivity is the way forward. I also love how damn well made everything in 1/8 is. For example a diff is a proper machined complex metal beauty, like a miniature real car item, rather than a 1/10 toy plastic cog with some washers.

If re-re's work for tamiya then why not for kyosho? They are clearly dipping their toe in the water with the scorpion to see how they do. It is big business afterall. The market for them is huge as 90% of people back then owned either tamiya or kyosho. Nostalgia makes a lot of money. So I am fairly certain all kyosho back models will be released.

With Yokomo I am not so sure, as they are much smaller, more like AE. Maybe, maybe not. Still, the YZ-10 is the 4WD equivalent of the RC10 so it is not totally out of the question. Both are smaller firms specialising in race vehicles with a strong following of their iconic cars. So the demand is there. It just depends on whether they want to make money doing it or not. Your guess is as good as mine.

However I agree the niche models will be much safer, such as hirobo etc as hardly that many owned them back then, so it is a vastly smaller market. Far too niche to bother with!

I like the Kyosho approach. Running major upgrades, yet keeping the look is a great idea. Old scorpions will still be exclusive,, Its just that the lack of non suckyness of them will be more noticeable now! At least we hope the new model will handle better along with the drive train upgrades.

I think some of the tamiya re-re's like the avante were quite good as well - making improvements in materials / quality, but keeping the look. It also distances them in a subtle way from the originals. In this modern age there is no excuse for making a copy worse than the original.

I don't think the re re will hurt collectors of the originals at all. It seems they did keep the original look but the upgrades are subtle enough to distinguish parts from vintage. Even the tires look the same, but the pattern was changed for better performance. Original will always be original and therefor more collectible. I'm sure there are many collectors that would love to take their buggy off the shelf and actually run it but because parts are so rare and expensive, it keeps you from being able to do that. (Well, that didn't stop Lars) But now you can get a re re and not worry about it

I'm still unsure what electrical system would be good for this one. Everything has changed so much since I was last into it, I don't know much about this newer equipment. Needing only 1 servo is so awesome! I am familiar with LiPo's though due to all my micro Heli's. I will need a new Tx/Rx setup.

No box art, I am thinking the two colors I will use, yellow and black, Blue and Yellow, Black and red, Dark Blue and Light blue etc. So many colors to pick.
