Judging by memory I have that the Air Supply was a motor (as would have been 'Standard Yokomo), I would expect that it's what it says on the header.... a dust cover for the non-pinion end of a motor, to protect the bearing.

Then again, that's just a guess based on logic, not actual knowledge......

found some articles about air supply motor along with wimpy-gonzo motors. i'm still not sure with these aluminum caps. but i can remember i saw wimpy motor before. thanks for the info with your opinion

The item is for a ball diff., and more than likely for a Tamiya or Kyosho car from way back when. Just not sure which it belongs!

I would put my money on Tamiya from way back and not Kyosho.

if the end is a hex, it's probably the cup drive for a frog/blackfoot thorp ball diff. The one side of the diff had a hex drive(and another larger hex adapter it fit into).

I have those parts and part numbers. This cup is shorter.

Gonzo / Wimpy was a local battery matcher and motor winder in the Northwest Indiana USA area. I used to get motors and batteries from Lee Morrison, the owner. He wound a lot of mod motors on Air Supply teardowns. This was also the base motor used for a lot of CAM motors as well. I believe they may have also been used by HPI/ Uno at one point as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyway, I would think that it really is a dust cap for the endbell bearing. the HPI/Uno story is awesome even it's not 100% sure. thanks for the info based on your experience

HPI had their own teardowns what also show HPI at the endbell. These were made by Sagami as Yokomo but had better airflow than the Yokomos in my opinion. The only other manufacturer using HPI teardowns for some time had been GM-Racing, at least saw no other until now. I´m not sure but I think I was posting a picture of HPI based GM-Racing motor.
I never saw a HPI motor using Air Supply teardown.

Ball diffs - two alu rails (like the Optima) sandwiched between two sheets of thin plastic.
Gearbox entirely made of plastic, no alu plates.

Looks like a Hotshot part to me.

Hotshot is #4552. I have a Thorp catalog and this part is not listed in it. Possibly mis-labeled or for an odd ball transmission

I got pics from the -97 worlds and here is some weird looking car.
Do somebody now what it is.
