Re: $40 Grasshopper
@vintage racer: Wow, your hopper is beat! Looks like you have your fun with it. I take mine out once in a blue but I do baby it a little since it is vintage and pretty clean.

Re: $40 Grasshopper
Nice score for only $40. I sold a vintage NIB Grasshopper on ebay a few years ago on got around $450 for it. You got a great deal!!!

Re: $40 Grasshopper
It was a great deal. I found these tires on the Bay for cheap. The one's I've seen like these before were by Proline, but these have no markings on them at all. I took the $40 Grasshopper down to a local ballpark to test them out.

Re: $40 Grasshopper
Here's an action shot I made yesterday of a grashopper at a local event.
Thought you might like it even though it has modern tires and wheels fitted.

and it shows!!!!vintage racer wrote:Go Smoke Dog,drive the tyres off that thing.I drive my hopper every week.

Good to see people enjoying their hoppers - still one of the most beautiful shells ever made imho, looks like a "Real" sand buggy from back in the days. Mine is still in the box, can't seem to find the time to assemble it

Re: $40 Grasshopper
I agree Lonestar. It just looks like a scale buggy. That's why I plan on doing another hopper body on a more capable chassis. Realistic scale body on top, high performance underneath.
What ever happened to RC buggies? Back in the day they all looked like realistic buggies you would see on the dunes or racing on TV. Now they are strictly RC race machines, out of proportion and unrealistic. I used to love old Rough riders, Sand Scorchers, Scorpions, Optimas, older RC10's, Ultimas... Realistic sized wheels, crazy knobby tires with lettering, sweet paint jobs with sponsors... And what ever happened to driver figures?
That's why I'm glad I found this site. It's like a time capsule. I've seen all kinds of stuff I forgot all about and haven't seen for years. It all takes me back...

Re: $40 Grasshopper
At the same event I took the above picture, my friend Yaji was running his 'super hornet' : sporting an ulitma RB (5?) and some recent Losi gearbox. I'll be posting pics in a report thread, along with some other upgraded hoppers and hornets.
Not sure if the old knubby tires were really more realistic
The best scale looking tires are the grsahopper fronts and subaru brats offcourse.

Re: $40 Grasshopper
True, true, the old knobby tires were not all that realistic, but they just looked sweet on those old school buggies. Better looking than the crop of tires that followed in my opinion.
