1. Remove the head from the engine.
2. Rotate the crank till the piston is at top dead center (piston can be broken if you don't)
3. Remove the back plate
4. remove the piston sleeve. (these tend to stick but be careful how remove it it's easily damaged)
5. now the rod will slide off the crank pin and the piston rod assembly can be removed.
Always rotate the to TDC alot of back plates have a groove cut in them that the piston skirt will drop into at BDC. If you try to remove the back plate when the piston is in that groove you will break the piston if you force it. As for reassembly after run oil is the best thing to use.
