Technically, about 30 years. I still have my first hobby grade car. But I'd say that more than half of them have been in the last few years. I really stepped my game up during COVID.

Plus, very few of mine were kits. They were either rebuilds or built completely from parts.

I might be able to get all (7) chassis done in a months time, but painting all these is another story, going to be a while.

Would be easy to put the yellow wheels on the Lunch Box instead, at this point.

Got the Lunch Box chassis done today. It made me aware of things I had not done correctly on the Midnight Pumpkin, the shocks have a shorter-body pair that goes in the back.




Need to lengthen the ESC wires on the Lunch Box, and both of these need a Rx still. Getting closer to paint.

3500 grit sponge wet sand to get the surface ready, then wash and let soak in Dawn and water, rinse thoroughly.


Tamiya Grey non-Fine Primer.


Tamiya TS-6 Matte Black.








Going to let this dry overnight, and try to finish this model completely by tomorrow. The decals, and the electronics are all that's left.

It's super easy to slam a lunchbox. Just take off the lower block front and year, and use the chassis just like a hornet or grasshopper, then run hornet/grasshopper wheels and street tires.

It's how my lunchbox lived forever because when I got it, it was just a box of parts, some of which were missing.

Oh, and also remove the chrome 'shock' bodies and run some silicone tubing on the shafts sticking up on top.

The Midnight Pumpkin body makes me want to run it down low. I'll check in to it.

The shocks are noisy just pressing on them, will add the silicone tubing to get rid of that, and soften up the rebound.

If you are going to do it to the pumpkin, you'll have to watch the shock shafts, probably have to do something different. The lunchbox with the van body doesn't care how far the shock rods stick up. The pumpkin body I think has some limits. You may also have to find different springs or trim the springs.

I'll probably just leave these the height they are, for now. I hear they are fun like this, might as well find out.

Didn't realize how much extra brush painting the instructions call for. Glad I'm learning on this one, first. Rough going in a few spots, will get another can of TS-6 matte black and spray over the bad brush work.


Not sure I want the decals, need to paint the bad spots and decide then.






Will finish extending the 1060 ESC wires and getting the electronics ready next, while waiting for the TS-6.

There are (6) cans of Tamiya paint that will be here tomorrow. I should have everything to finish all of my Tamiya RC's, starting tomorrow.

Complete with vintage AM radio, this one will be the buddy RC that others can enjoy.


Only thing different about this one from the manual, is the TS-6 Matte Black, instead of TS-14 Black.
