Those tires came out great, nice work. I'll see how the paint pen does, and then try the tooth pick if I can't get the pen to work.

Is there anything that easily cleans the paint off the rubber?

That's what was nice with toothpick you can use clean one to remove any that goes outside the line.

It's been a while since I last used my Sharpie but I think I've used ordinary paint thinner (NOT lacquer thinner) since it is oil based paint. Definitely catch it before it dries completely. I don't remember the paint being hard to remove.

OK, stay with me here for a sec. Painting sidewall lettering on 1/24 static model tires, I noticed the oil based paint never really dries and remains tacky. Acrylic paint was the winning ticket. But then, those tiny little solid tires don't flex once mouted up. I think alot of those tires are actually vinyl? I have never lettered a "rubber" R/C tire though. Just something to consider, I guess. Or not. I really am not sure how enamel paint cures on this specific rubber compound. Or if your even gonna go with enamel (oil based) or acrylic.

I will have the oil based Sharpie pen, the acrylic based pens, and I also have Tamiya acrylic and tooth picks. The spare tires should be here soon to test on. The Sand Scorcher kit went from Kadoma, Osaka Japan, to Memphis TN, in one day today. Should be here soon.

This was on my doorstep before 10am this morning.

This is the view I remember from the city Bus and the kid holding it.

A lot of the paint has arrived already, but it may take a while to get it all.

The first-reveal/presentation from the early Tamiya kits is incredible.

Got this far and realized my Sand Scorcher did not come with the ESC. Good thing I ordered (2) 1060 ESC's, they both showed up today, along with the P34 kit.

Got to step 10 tonight, and my kit is missing (2) M3 x 3mm grub screws. Had to buy (50) from Amazon, should be here tomorrow.
Image

I was hoping to finish the chassis tonight, there were only 5 more steps to go.

That is extremely, and I mean extremely, rare to see a Tamiya kit missing screws. I actually don't recall ever seeing that happen

I can't imagine that either, but you can see I have a magnetic mat, and all of my parts are kept in one spot. I read another review somewhere, that said they were missing something also from a Sand Scorcher kit. I tore this place apart, thinking I misplaced the grub screws, or that they stuck to a magnet. Looked everywhere. Was more shocked than I was disappointed, couldn't believe it.

I shall never be wanting for M3 x 3mm grub screws again, set for life.

Time to finish this chassis, and get to the hard part, painting the body.

I got two steps further:
Image

- and noticed my kit is missing the last (2) BC7's, or M3 x 6.5mm spacers - for mounting the front shocks to the top of the beam.
Image

This kit was from a seller from Japan, at Amazon, the kit was sealed, but it was a lot cheaper than the other kits at $290.

Bag C, is the bag that was supposed to contain (14) of those grub screws 3x3mm, and (8) of the spacers 3x6.5mm, Bag C was the only thing off with this kit so far.

Tamiya is out of those 3x6.5mm spacers.
https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/7-digit-spare-parts/rc-3x65mm-spacer-58452/none/

Part number for the spacers is: 9804405, time to go find a pair.

Only place I could find the Sand Scorcher spacers was the UK for some reason, had to buy (10) of them, may be a while before I see those.

Got my first tire done, came out decent.

The acrylic seems fragile, it flakes off fairly easily when wet still. Will it get tougher, or do I need to add a clear coat layer over it?

Got the shelf wheels put together. It does feel like the tires would still need to be glued, or maybe I haven't tightened them all the way - they do slip on the rims, as was pointed out earlier.
Image

The acrylic tire paint does get better as it dries. Will finish the tire writing on this set.

Still have the stock rims and a spare set of tires. Might make a more boxart style wheel with the aluminum covers and no tire writing on those.

Today, a seller on ebay offered an entirely new and sealed 'Bag C', for the Sand Scorcher/Rough Rider/Buggy Champ. This contains the grub screws and spacers.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/315009655772

This seller is parting out Tamiya kits, if you need anything for a Tamiya, check him out.

I should be back to building this sooner now.
