Restoring Black Plastic Parts

I bought empty steel paint cans so I can store and reuse my leftover dye.

So, I went to re-dye some 6gear buggy parts on Sunday. My paint can of black dye was empty. The bottom rusted out and 3/4 of a gallon of dye (7oz with water added) had all leaked out on my garage workbench. Hmmm... Maybe doing both the dye heating and storage in a steel paint can isn't such a good idea. But my paint can of red dye hasn't leaked yet.

I have a mini crock pot that stays in my office with black dye in it. I just top it off occasionally.
