The sealed diff in the new drag truck looks very promising and will swap into old cases if you don’t want to convert (from what I hear). I need to get one on back order to play with.

The only thing I've broken on my Stampede is a bent kingpin, and I was amazed that it was all that was damaged. It was running full speed and I misjudged a turn, clipping the jack on my car hauler. It hit the one tire hard enough to send it (the truck) flying through the air.

I've been waiting for them to become available. That's one of the things I like about Traxxas cars, too. I can upgrade the diff on my drag car, and slap the hot racing diff in one of the bashers. I only need to have a few spare parts and they fit all of my cars.

I did look at the manual of the drag slash Diff and somehow recall that it might need a bigger bearing at the outdrives. I’m too lazy to confirm on my phone right now.

Please keep us updated as you go. Im curious to know what you think long term. I still have my rustler from 98. Ive updated it over the years to newer stuff. I think initially their rustler/bandit and stampede left a bit to be desired. But I think now theyre finally offering the rustler at a spec they should have 15+ years ago.

They come new from traxxas now with things you would have wanted/needed to upgrade right away back then.

I just cross checked some manuals, the new Magnum 272R diff LOOKS like a Jato diff with 48dp but is not quite that. BUT the 272R diff rides its' case in 10x15mm bearings, the classic Bandit diff runs the outdrives directly in 5x11mm bearings. So you MIGHT beable to adapt the old diff into the new tranny (why would you want to do that?!?) but not the other way around. Perhaps one could ream a classic case to accept 15mm flanged bearings.

So the only QUICK swap there is is changing out the whole transmission.

Yeah I was going off what I read previously and that was false (what has the world come to when you can’t trust what you see online ). Still would rather use this new Traxxas trans instead of a, say, hot racing sealed diff in an old style case. The support will be much better and Traxxas stuff is pretty bulletproof for stock the way it is.

At current prices, the Pro-Line transmission would be more appealing.

In the long run, I'm sure the Traxxas transmission would be the smarter choice, as replacement parts will be around for decades.

My old rustler diff has been pretty solid. But definitely like the new diff on the end. If I ever attempt a rustler build, Id give the new diff a try.

I just checked out the Pro-Line Transmission. Looks like Traxxas copied that design. Here in Europe 100€ vs. 140€.

@ nitrous36 just to be clear, that new diff is NOT a drop in, you'll have to swap the whole transmission.

I wonder if the new gear diff is the reason why the 2520 ball diff for the 2wd cars was recently discontinued. Oddly the 4620 ball diff for the radicator/sledgehammer still seems to be available. I wonder if that would fit a new car.
