Think I have all the broken bits ordered , not much just two steering blocks and the servo saver set , missing parts were gear cover, various screws and a body set , other stuff was a stock diff/spur gear , the diff mod bearings and an under chassis decal sheet , the diff gear it came with is a crazy fine pitch , way finer than 48dp ! So rather than hunting down matching pinions it was easier to just get the stock one .
My gearbox has got the white plastic idlers so I started hunting for the black ones but only found some Thorp ones , would they be worth getting ?

The Thorp gears are 48P, while stock is 32P. The are part of a complete gear set.

Standard pan car spur gears, diff balls, and diff rings work fine. No need in paying top dollar for vintage AE stuff. I usually use Kimbrough spur gears and RJ Speed diff rings and balls on six gear trans. But nothing says that you can't use higher grade parts.

Be forewarned, the diff gear will likely wobble some.

Hey Dadio I run 2s and 10.5t and broke two of the Thorp 48dp plastic idler gears before tossing in the towel and going back to stock AE 32dp gears.
With a 27t brushed motor, the Thorpe gear set will probably be fine but they don't last long on brushless/lipo power.
Your car probably came with a 64dp spur which probably is better suited to an on-road pan car.

I don't think he has the Thorp gear set. I think he's looking for idle gears and seen those and wondered if they were viable.

The car came with the very fine Diff gear but I've already ordered a stock replacement , its the idler gears i was asking about , its no big problem yet as the stock white ones look ok as yet .

Yeah, I agree. Depending upon which motor you go with, the stock white 32dp idler gears should be okay.
If you can locate a worn-out set of stock metal outdrive gears (those having worn-out drive cups), you can modify them to become idler gears which would yield a full set of metal gears in the tranny -- just cut off the drive cup. I haven't yet tried this myself but this arrangement should be virtually bullet-proof.

If this car ever goes brushless it won't be for power/speed but for run time , I usually take two or three cars out for a run so I can easy have one cooling it's motor if needs be .

I have a complete transmission , my Diff gear arrived , its installed along with the outdrive bearings , its all cleaned and lube'd and just waiting on the Lexan cover

As you can see although its an A stamp this will never be a shelf queen so its no shame to make it a runner , I'm really surprised that the nylon is still quite white with just a week soaking in plain water to rehydrate and a basic cleaning

Wow, I have to agree Dadio. It's been used but definitely not abused.
Don't sweat the scratches, inspecting the bottom of the pan requires a deliberate act; it's not easily seen while on the shelf or on the track -- well, most of the time anyway.
Anyway, good job. The car is looking great!!
