False alarm, there out. Put the arms in boiling water and tapped a tiny flathead screwdriver into the set screw heads.

Is there any prize for most discoloured plastics?
Some of these have gone a translucent dark brown!!



Ill give them a soak before i do anything else.
Really cant see these coming back white, but ill try.

Yeah those are not pretty. Time to invest in some black dye.

The black and white image at the top of the board, thats the image i remember most. Ive been trying to find it online but no luck. Not sure why i cant find it.

yeah, those plastics are pretty ugly. black will be the only way to save them.

you should be able to browse ebay and find many of the plastics still in white. they are out there. another option is to check out ebay and facebook for guys selling partial cars with white parts. you have a transmission so you can often find a good deal on a car that someone is selling and took the trans out of. bonus is you might be able to get the right shocks and spare hardware.

I have a few contacts for parts now which is good. Parts arent easy to come by in the uk where as US ebay is flooded with them. No surprise i guess.
Ill clean these as well as possible and use it a little, see what breaks. Ill replace as needed and pick up anything i find along the way.

The main reason i think ill run it as it is first is its only really going to be used on astro tracks and there is always a chance ill end up modifying it.
Its not a bad example really, but i dont think its good enough to worry about keeping it box stock.
Or am i wrong?

This car seems to have come ballraced. I know some kits did. The front wheel outers however are bronze bushes. If you bought a kit with bearings would it have 2 for each front wheel? It has 2 in each rear upright.

yep, perfect car to race around. the chassis seems really nice but the plastics are runner grade. no worries. you could run a chassis mask on the bottom to help preserve the anodizing.

if you are running on carpet, you might consider going to the longer front 'team' arms, and slightly more modern wheels and tires. it will make the car more stable and make for a more enjoyable experience. You can use the world car manual for setup differences and starting points.

the car could have come with bearings or they were added later. hard to say. avidrc and many others sell bearings for $1.00 each so it's not worth it to do anythings else these days.

I normally run on short pile astro. There is a carpet track too but not often allowed on it. Id need to make some shock protectors too.
It will get a chassis protector for sure, unless the tub is worse than im expecting.
Its a shame on the plastics, they are unscratched and all the joints are super tight (too tight, nothing pivots properly at the moment). There is no play in anything. Even all the ball cup joints are tight with no play. Shame the ball cups have gone so weak.
Looks like it was run once or twice, then painted, then put under a bush for 30 years!

Its pretty much ideal for me i think. Its a nice original pan, but not so nice that i feel bad running it and still good enough to look at on the shelf. It will get a protector on it for when its run though.

The plastics have had regular hot water baths and have regained some flexibility. I even got the rest of the balls out without breaking the cups.

I took the trans apart and its great, except for the thrust bearing having been put together wrong, so im missing the thrust washer with the big hole and one teflon bush.

I have cleaned the life out the plastics and stripped the few bits of paint off them. They are in a peroxide bath as we speak but i dont hold out much hope. Shame as they are really good otherwise with super tight pivot points and no damage.

I am slowly coming round to this. Might be the only way.
Maybe i just have to admit to myself this isnt my childhood dream rc10, but a different, gold and black rc10.

Ive straightened the tub, think i have most of the missing pieces located, and the plastics are in peroxide still. Not much uv about at the moment though so alternating between outdoors and under the fish tank lights.
In the mean time i de rusted and cleaned all the steel parts.
