Great job on the hardware, what’s your method mate?

Thsnks No special technique except patients, each bolt, screw and nut hand cleaned. Everything was in good shape so screws were just chucked in drill and polished with an old t-shirt. I used metal polish on the screws that were more tarnished, except you can't use the polish straight, you need to use the light black residue remnants from polishing somthing else otherwise you'll strip the zinc plating right off the screw.... works pretty well. The nuts you can use a heavier polish concentration due to the less aggressive nature of hand polishing.

Overkill? Probably..... but I want to keep it as OE as possible and Tamiya screw bags aren't cheap or easy to find here.


I finished up the front axle hardware tonight so only have rear hardware to go.

This Clodbuster is turning into quite an expensive exercise I'm still collecting parts and cleaning parts so I won't start building it until I have everything ready to go. Parts seem to be drying up and harder to find. Everything is pretty much sorted now except for a tire, and who knows how that will play out as getting a set of 4 tires here is the same price that I paid for the truck to begin with


I wanted to run a Tekin Titan in this to match the Futaba radio gear but they seem rare as hens teeth. I was a Novak fan back in the day but the thought of a big orange box sitting in the chassis with purple heat sinks bugs me on this one, lol.


Should I hold out and try to find a Tekin or take the more plentiful route of a Novak Super Rooster? I'm open to other suggestions (except for the Hobbywing 860 and Novak/Traxxas EVX) don’t want either of those......


Maybe a twin ESC set up with easier to find Tekin or Futaba ESC's ?

hopefully you will find the tire you need. I have a pair of wheels and tires, though the tires have a slightly different pattern to them. I'm in the US but if you are interested PM me. not trying to circumvent the rules though.... Are you planning to run stock motors? if so, I think tamiya has a dual esc for the re-released truck unless it's too new for you.

i found an old novak dual motor/dual battery precursor to the traxxas evx and am very satisfied with it. you can always swap the heat sink to the older style with black or gold or even strip the purple and go with natural silver too.

also, this is up on ebay, and is the precursor to the titan, think the specs would be similar:

Thanks for the offer but I'm trying to keep this as original as physically possible. Super Clod tires would do as they'd be fresh and new but like everything else the shipping is the killer. I found a nice looking set of vintage wheels and almost forked out but luckily I asked as the seller said they were dry.

I've gone down the path of buying heat sinks before and not convinced that it's a better path to take. I thought dying a Super Rooster case black and using gold or red heat sinks would be pretty trick but do I want to go to that trouble? Not sure..... I will be using stock motors so almost any ESC that can handle a 13T would suffice, just gotta find the right one

Picked up some paint for this today and nearly have everything to complete it now. I also finished cleaning the hardware for it which I'm glad is finally over. Time to start stripping the body next.... I'm not really looking forward to that either

Bonus points if you know what it will look like when finished

Great build so far! I can appreciate the work that goes into cleaning parts, especially hardware. So many people skip this on rebuilds, and to me it really detracts from the overall look and quality of the build.

I just finished rebuilding a Hilux Monster Racer. Cleaning and surfacing the hardware was one of the most time consuming parts. So nice once it's done though.
I am looking forward to seeing the end result.

My screws finally came, I only need 1 or 2 things out of each bag which is kind of annoying but that's Tamiya



Just need to work on the body now, kinda sad pulling all the decals off....

I could have bought a bowtie clod instead but as this was going to be a runner I wasn't too fussed at the time....... however..... with the amount of effort, time and money gone into this I'm not so sure I want to run it anymore

Sounds like me with just about all of my resto’s/rebuilds

I’ve recently got a NIB Black edition, and some MCI stickers so should have a built Clod sometime in the future. Still got my original NIB (non bow tie) too.
