So I found out that decades ago I must have taken the trans apart. I have the shell, the drive gear, bearings, slipper clutch, and that's it. Arg. And of course without 30 posts and ebay notification I can't request anything on here. I just can't bs that many posts without a running car, lol. Associated doesn't carry all the parts and that seems like the wrong way to do it anyway (piece by piece). I got a cheap $50 parts car - of course, sans stealth trans.
Anyone have a stealth trans or a differential at least they want to sell?

Do you have the left and right out drives? They are the hardest thing to find new.

I check ebay pretty often (and have been for the last few years) and finding a complete diff assembly alone for sale is rare. As as suggestion, you might consider buying a good used transmission instead as these are posted on ebay every week for around 50 bucks (maybe a little less if the case has been dyed). Then, you could keep what you currently have for spares (or swap cases since yours hasn't been dyed).
Edit: here's a decent one for 45 and that includes shipping. You'd likely spend much more for parts -- if you could find them.

I'd jump on that, won't last very long! Ok, I bought it. I'll use it's guts and my bearings and case. I saw that and thought maybe it was expensive. Restoring is way more $ than buying new, I've figured that out...

Fantastic! I was worried that you wouldn't see my post until it was too late. Yes, this is NOT a cheap hobby (actually, are any of them "cheap"?)
Good condition RC10 outdrives are quickly becoming worth their weight in gold.

I got the transmission yesterday, disassembled it, rebuilt the diff and output shaft with new balls, lubed it with the appropriate greases, put new bearings in my non-pink trans halves. Looking more like a car now:

As it's been mentioned here many times, they do tend to multiply.
I think I'm up to 8 or 10 completed rtr gold pan cars with boxes of parts to make a few more. I reckon there are members here who have dozens of them -- and it all started with just one car. It can become a magnificent addiction.

Made her first run in over 20 years!
It wasn't all too far since with these CVA's, they're too short. So when the rear suspension is at full droop, they pop out. Ugh. So I got some miniature limiting straps. If I can keep the axles straight when it goes off a jump or makes a tight turn, should be fine. Otherwise I'll have to figure out something a bit more creative.
And you're right about the addiction. I'm going to try an keep it to the CE never run shelf queen I got, my original CE from this thread, the Worlds Car, and I'm going to try to take my HPI RS4 and convert it to electric.

Also, you can limit suspension travel with the shocks by adding a sleeve (length of fuel tubing or similar) to the shaft just below the piston. Of course this requires disassembly of the shock so it's kinda messy.BooGTS wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:17 pm
