I think the dimensions are indeed the same. A modified Ultima bulkhead was also used on the Kyosho Rampage (the first one), and that one also fits the Ultima - it has the hinge pin mount reinforced by adding two additional segments of plastic to hold the (longer) hinge pins.

Thanks. I have a rampage bulkhead in my boxes. It uses front arms from one of the optima (mid?) incarnations.

Fantastic! What is the plan for the steering uprights? And was the thought to use B3 type wheels?

Steering uprights... Is that the part holding the wheel axle? I wasn't planning for those. Did you have some ideas? Oh, I got you, you want those knuckles fitting the c-carrier and b3wheels and axles, right?
I don't own those wheels or axles, so, not likely.
Maybe someone with metalworking tools can make custom axles...

Yes, the part holding the wheel axle. In addition to the front arms being short, the Ultima has problems with the fitment of newer front wheels. I thought since you were putting all the hard work into a new bulkhead, some way of mounting newer wheels would be a good idea. :D

There are quite a few options already.
Shumacher dish wheels fitting 8x4mm bearings, aswell as a an associated wheel accepting 8 x4mm. Or turbo scorion re-re
Crp or hot trick or rw racing axles combined with 10x5 bearings and bmax2 wheels or nova fox or wild one or durango dex210, or tamiya... Forgot the model.

I'm kind of expecting kyosho to re-re the ultima and it would be great to have hop-ups ready to fit.

I don't know if it would work well, but I can easily design new wheels that fit the standard shaft and bearings. Or 10x4 bearings: I believe associated has them somewhere in the b5m. Those could be too thick though.

I'm in the Us at the mmoment and can't do a lot without the parts to measure up. But here's the finished up C-carrier with provision for a grubscrew (M4 again).

If someone wants to give me dimensions or a discarded b3 C-carrier I can make acustom design to use with B3 steerringknuckles and axles


I'll also ask ORB about whether a printed wheel is worth trying.
Icould get that designed without needing much measurement: just the bearing surface length on the standard ultima axle so I can calculate how much space I need between the bearing surfaces

Orb told me a printed wheel should work, but is probably on the expensive side.

So, this design for a 2.2" sized front wheel on 4 by 8 mm bearings is just for fun really:

I also drew up some the axles and bearings, steering pin and steering knuckle. Just going for visually more or less correct copies of the original as I had no specific ideas on improvements for these and no plans to print, or, produce them in another way.

I added more re-inforcement on the inside of the front wheels, and branding
Andd I couldn't just leave it at fronts only. So here are the matching design rears. 2.2" and offset copied from the 1.9" 2 piece optima mid wheels.

These renderings show some of the work put into the design: trying to keep in thin walled but strong. the prints will be much duller. No way to print a shiny part just yet.

Oh yes. And much wilder things even.
It's fun to do, but a little frustrating too. Waiting for the prototypes feels like taking forever. And when they arrive there's bunches of small corrections to do , and then wait again...
A lot cheaper than cnc, unless you can do that yourself. But still quite a bit more costly than buying salvage parts or cars as I used to do.

For now the focus is still on the yokomo works arms. Wether these ultima parts will get passed the virtual stage depends a bit on how those turn out and consequently, wheter I wsnt to,spend the kind of money. After all i still have lots of standard parts for the ultima and other already built buggies: none of which see action since I started crawling.

Thank you for the knowledge, it gives me a better understanding of the process of 3D printing. Awhile back I purchased an RC10 front bumper from Shapeways. I did not like the grainy look/feel to the part and tossed it in a box. That experience turned me off to the whole concept and I gave it no further thought. Now, I want to learn more about it.
