The first way had more of a 4WD look due to the wide front tires, narrow front tires would've looked better. The second way has tire sizes that look right, but the rears make it look more VW dune-buggy-ish than hot rod. I'm not sure what the perfect look would be...chrome 5-spoke wheels of some sort with wide rears and narrow fronts?

I was thinking of those, too. They come in chrome, matte chrome & black...I'd vote for chrome.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying to use the many parts I have in my collection rather than buying more of them though

Absolutely fantastic project. Beautiful job.
If your looking for more toe in the rear you could use the 2016 Optoma rear carriers as they have adjustable sleeves. I will be using a set in my lazer zx5 sct eventually.
