Pics might help us here. Odd that the 8.4 runs faster in reverse than forward. Sounds like a setting would fix it or you just need to change something in your wiring. I would suggest trying to switch over to lipo and just forget about the Nimh batteries honestly.

Ok so tried a lipo in this car and all I can say is WOW,this thing is crazy now,I can see why you all suggest lipo
