They are definitely not as durable as an injection molded nylon piece but they should take a fair amount of abuse on a dirt track. Probably not so much on concrete or if its hard core bashing.
Awesome car! I love how you're running vintage electronics too. Do you think they will be much of a handicap? Like if the response of the servo is slow, or the ESC is inefficient, compared to modern stuff other guys may be running, and NiCADs vs LiPos?
Thanks! The ESC and motor combo have been great, the servo is a little on the slow side when compared to a modern $100+ servo but I don’t think it’s a handicap. I’ve been trying to keep the car in the full spirit of vintage but I have to admit that NiCads do suck, especially 20 year old NiCads, they drop off towards the end of the heat (we run 5 min). When indoor racing picks up again in the fall I might switch to a low C rated lipo.
Nice buggy I would change out that servo to a more robust I don't think speed the issue but the torgue 25oz not good. I would go for at least a S9301..69.5 oz S132H made more for on road 1/12 scale.
Yeah, I’m aware and I had some reservations before using it. It’s a servo I've had laying around for a long time and I wanted to try it, so far it’s held up and performs decent. If the vintage racing scene gets more competitive and the frequency of it picks up I’ll eventually upgrade.
