Re: Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja
Finally thanks to Tak's efforts I have a new belt set-up for this car. I am still having a lot of trouble removing all the grime. Some parts have already been completely cleaned and lightly polished but others e.g. the casings and engine are still filthy...kustomizerz wrote:Here you are.

BTW how do you take the insides out of a glow engine to thoroughly clean it? It's an OPS engine...
Re: Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja
Here is my HP Porsche 930.

It looked like this when I got it.

I found a donor car and a better body for it so I was able to put it together.
But it took me about three years to find the parts.
I´m going to try to make a new radiobox using the old one as a mold.
I have a spare chassi wich I´m going to make a Texas Wild Baja of.

Theese cars came in two generations, the earlier one had steel brackets
for the front suspension arms and for the rear springs (the black bits) and had 12mm frame rails.
The later lighter version came with alu brackets and 10mm rails.
In Sweden theese cars were sold with a Volvo 343 body also.

I think the bodies were made by "Carlsson" the Swedish rc-car manufacturer.

Re: Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja
Nice cars mate. I really like them. I was wondering if we could perhaps help each other out though.
Basically do you have a copy of the manual to scan please?
And on my part, I was wondering if you'd like a repro body, radio box and lid for the Texas Wild Baja?
I am making molds at the moment and will have them sorted in the next couple of months.

Re: Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja
I would like that a lot.
But I don´t have the manual yet.
But I will double my efforts to get one now, at least.
Earlier models have a different radiobox and lid than the later ones.
The later ones have the HP logo on the lid, earlier just a grid pattern.
The bumper changed also during the models lifetime.
Early ones had a alu rod 7-8mm and the later a plastic "sheet" one.
Here´s a nice Texas from Tamiyaclub.

Here link to car.

What about that cooling shroud that surrounds the motor?
I bet those all got binned pretty early on...might be worth reproducing.

I noticed that shroud in those pics too, it's a bizarre idea. I have never seen one on anyone's car on the 'net and without one to mold I wouldn't know where to start.templeofspeed wrote:What about that cooling shroud that surrounds the motor?I bet those all got binned pretty early on...might be worth reproducing.

Sorry, no I don´t.Dr. Robotnik wrote:The radio box lid and base molds are done. I will try and get the first lot off in the next couple of weeks...

I have only seen one car in Sweden with the cover still intact and that wasn´t for long.
The guy who had the car put a to big engine in the car and blew the clutch and cover to pieces.. Jerk!
This is the car.
This was the end result.
And he did this after I told him the cover was a rare piece.
A friend of mine was able to talk the Jerk into selling the car to him before he could do any more damage.
Here´s a picture of the shroud, I have never seen one of those.

Looking forwars to seeing some pictures of the Box n´ Lid.
And looking forward to a bunch of them sent to me.

I found a picture of the earlier radiobox.
I will try to replicate the lid.- Dr. Robotnik

Re: Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja
I think one more run and my clutch cover will explode too. It has so many hairline cracks.
Shame about that other dudes behaviour, I'd like to run mine eventually but not if it explodes.
It'd be cool to find out these radio boxes were some standard tupper ware box still available over the counter. But so very unlikely.

Hi Robot,
I got hold of a Wild Baja earlier today. It's the original chassis with the Porsche hull. Chassis&tires are in excellent condition. I just have to find a hull replica. This is where you come into the picture
- if you could model one for me, I'd be rady to pay the cost. Anything else I can help you with, just let me know! I'll see with the seller what info he sits on as regards the car. Maybe I get lucky and he's got a manual/catalogue or so.
Regs,
JayPee

Re: Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja
hi guys,
i was thinking about buying one of those old rigs since marwan from kuwait sells very nice bodies for them. i always liked this car, i was the dream car of my childhood. i had a graupner catalog with awesome pics of this car running in the dirt.
marwan offers a baja body and the 1/8 datsun fairlady body for this chassis plus decals. he also sells radio boxes. i have never seen
them in person, but i have a beetle body from him with decals. i don't exactly know who makes them for marwan, but all
i can say is the stuff he sells is top notch. the bodies are more detailed and higher quality than the original ones, that is for sure. give him a call.
