Happy Birthday to Michael, I think he will pull through. They got to him pretty quick and got him to the hospital quickly as well.

Here is a little info so far.

Rather than listening for the news, the best explanation about what's happening is coming form Gary Hartstein who used to be the doctor in the f1 medical car in histwitter feed and blog. The doctors now just have to wait until the swelling recedes, however long that takes.

I have ended up seeing what Hartstein has to say for the last while now.

But there is some more news here. Hope he is going to pull through.

Sounds like he is out of the coma and transferred to a Swiss hospital

Yup, a long road ahead of him.

If anyone can rehabilitate, It will be him, I am sure he will do just fine.

These articles have been getting posted on several car forums so I've read a similar story but with varying opinions. Some think that the wording of his transfer is very deliberate and takes care to not state that he is anything more than technically awake. I don't know if that's the same as what we may be assuming that he is on the road to rehabilitation such as walking, etc.

The opinions also seemed to point toward increased privacy by the family and probably fewer updates by those close to him. I think if there was good news they would be more forthcoming.

A really sad and terrible end to a great driver.

I'm staying somewhat positive that he'll be back someday. He may not be who he once was but others have been able to recover from similar injuries. Motorcycle racers Bubba Shobert and Giancarlo Falappa are good examples.
