By chance, do you have access to a wire EDM machine? or a Laser cutter? I would think they might work..... if anything you could do like a technacraft design and have the center bolt in from behind. Honestly, I don't care about functionality, I really only care about form (for once)

I do not have a water jet or EDM machine so those ideas are out. I want to keep everything in house on these and do not want to an outside shop to machine these.

to be honest, i'd be happy with a solid gold center and finish it off with some custom mesh decals. I assume that's possible?

If anyone is thinking of buying a 1/12th for mounting these wheels, make sure you get an old chassis, or at least an old diff. The wheels changed to a three bolt mounting around 1999/2000 with the Associated RC12L3.

Last week or so there was an auction for a lot of aluminum wheels from a out of business machine shop. The wheels looked to be made in 3 pieces...an outer rim, an inside face, and a wheel adapter that was a typical pan car to drive pin axle adapter. The outer rim was pretty much empty space in the middle though it did looked like there may have been a lip or edge in the middle. The inner face were flat disk ~2-3mm thick. My guess was that the diameters of the inner face and the inside of the outer rim were made to be a tight fit and the two pieces were press fit together.


Does making the wheel in two pieces sound like something that would work and make it easier for you to machine the inside pattern?

I have thought about making the wheel a two peice but I have yet to come up with a solution that would look decent. If I did not have to use a 1/16 endmill with inch long flutes the job would be ten time easier. As Terry mentioned these wheels are designed with the old diff. Have no fear though cause the three bolt hole wheel will be offered as well, they are drawn up and will be available.

my I suggest putting both the two bolt and three bolt pattern on them I have the 12L3 rear axles in my Vintage racers because its easer to get tires to fit them.

my I suggest putting both the two bolt and three bolt pattern on them I have the 12L3 rear axles in my Vintage racers because its easer to get tires to fit them.

The only problem there is that you take out the 12e/i/L and all the other early cars that didn't use a bolt on right side hub. The wheel holds bearings on those cars so the wheel is thick. In fact wasn't the LC the first associated car that used a diff with a bolt on 2 bolt right wheel? Probably still best to keep em separate wheels
