This is a cool thread. I can't help but notice every ad is 1985.

This is probably because the reality is the first (champagne, early edingers) were really pretty late in (the fall of) 1984. The Vineland race was in July and (I seem to remember) that there was the same sort of release date delay and struggle to meet initial demand. I was on a waiting list prior to the introduction and got mine essentially straight from Santa Ana (in November), as a Christmas present. I (well no Santa) paid the full monty $290 with the ball bearings. If I remember right, the deal I got from RCH involved a prepainted Protech for no additional cost.

You may think wow, $290 might have seemed steep, but you have to compare it to how much allowance money I was throwing at Tamiya SRB parts constantly breaking, and the prospect of an MIP SRB setup.

I have a RC Modeler from January of 1985 and there are no ads for the RC10? I do not find them until later in 85'.

That makes sense. I guess what I'm saying is that there wasn't a deflated "street price" in 1984. Maybe that came in 1985 once they started shipping out all the "later edingers"? Summer of 1984 there was still only a handfull of half-handmade cars for the team. For example, the Protech body wasn't even designed yet. Kind of splitting hairs, but worth noting if you are playing the comparison game with today's re-re I think.
