i just found the thread on tech, it's under venom thats why i couln't find anything.

they are cheap as chips on the bay right now too.

yup. i think i'm going to get one.

i know no one at my track will have one, and i like to be different. i'll also have an OIN ready to go with spares as well as my trusty b4.

our track is currently being redesigned and rebuilt. last year we had some pretty big jumps, my 10.5 was struggling. i think i'll pull the electronics out of my durango for this car, tekin rs pro, 7.5t redline and two pairs of nanotech 100c saddle packs. she should move along quite well with that gear in there.

a sponsored venom guy is close by too if i need any help, but he mainly races indoor.

i'll be sure to hit you up when i get it. i'm waiting for some "play money" to come in via a program at work and then i'll order it.

i race on a very loose gray clay. the only time of the day that traction comes up is after 4pm when we are running mains, and even at that 1/2 the track is loose.
so i run a loose setup all day. so any adise you can give on slippery / low traction will be of great help.

in the meantime i feel obligated to refresh my old b4, it's been such a good car to me.

we have a target date if april 21st for the first race, but i doubt that will happen because they are putting too much time into 2 1/5 scale tracks.

hey joey, since this thing will be here in a couple of days, and i'll build it that night, lets talk shocks.

did you mess around with yours anymore? what was the issue?
i see you used the 4 hole pistons, what oil did you use? rebound?
what are you going to change?

I initially built mine with the 3 hole straight pistons, 25 wgt oil. Didnt feel that bad on the bench, but once on the track it was like a rock. I went to the 4 hole straight piston, 30 front, 25 rear. Rear is a little soft feeling, but track time will tell me more. I need some tuning time to set shock position, currently #3 out on top, all out on bottom (front), #2 out on top, middle on bottom (rear). If anything, I may need to drop to a 1/2 weight on the front (27.5) and maybe bump the rear up as well to the same.

I did (very, very carefully) drill the caps for the bleeder holes. I will need to take one apart to show you, but it made building them so easy. All 4 shocks can be built completely dead, no rebound/pull at all.

The kit pinion/spur combo is loud, I will be taking the pinion off and putting one of my Losi/Robinson ones on there. Slipper works very well, diff is butter smooth, took my time "blueprinting" the tranny as I built it. Didnt need much, but I had to fiddle with it, its in my nature.

so you're going to try 27.5 all around then?

my b4 has been 35f/30r for so long. i'll have to pick up some half weights.

whats the fdr on these things? i'm going to have to do some math, i plan on running a 7.5. in blinky most likely as 7.5 is gonna moooove.
do stick packs fit? i keep hearing different answers to that. i have no shorty packs, so i may try a saddle setup, i have two brand new saddles that i got for the durango.
i'm selling the rango to pay for this thing. i just can't get into 4wd right now.

Stick, saddle & shorty fit. I am pretty sure the FDR is 2.6, I will have to double check. Right now I am going to try the 30/25, but may move to 27.5 all around - just a thought at this point.

i'm going back and forth between building it mid or rear motor.

my gut says rear, my brain is dying to try mid. again, on a slick track. your thoughts?

not to derail the discussion, but just a quick observation. The shock sets are under $30.00 bucks per pair, a really inexpensive way to try out the big bores, too.

I have a bitter taste about mid motor - granted, it was a 3 gear car, not 4 gear. But I still havent recovered.

I have been eyeballing an extra set of shocks for a while, just need to justify building yet another vintage buggy to put them on

i think i'll try mid motor. i can always switch it to rear if i don't like it and the body is longer in mid motor so all i'd need to to is trim it back to the rear motor line.

If there isn't above average grip and you need a lot of hard braking and acceleration (read a lot of 180deg) then rear is the way to go... otherwise, if grip and some "flow" then mid
