My vote would be for a Traxxas Stampede XL-5 but you want a kit. We have equally beat up on a Tamiya King Blackfoot so I agree they are durable. I wanted that Lunchbox myself but settled on rebuilding a Tamiya Humvee.

best kit for a kid ...... blackfoot 3 no contest, keep the stock body for the shelf and buy a parma f150 lexan body for bashing. unless you need it to be a buggy then get a holiday buggy or something like that. hornets /grasshoppers suck if they dont break the battery falls out. if they break something small like a rear body mount (hornet) you need a $12 parts tree.. ive run twin detonators / dual hunters(blackfoot 3 with 2 motors) alot without any problems. if you want to add to the fun later add another motor trans to the front and go 4x4 with the blackfoot 3. if you go kit for a kid thats all thats really out there if you want to do rtr thats a whole new game..
