I was looking at the decals and was comparing them to the decal sheet squarehead had produced. I'm going to try and get one of his sheets if he has any left. I did notice that I would have to also get the Pennzoil and extra Simpson and Heuer decals.

Does anyone know which decal sheet to buy to get the correct size Pennzoil and Heuer decals?

vintage AE wrote:I'm tempted to recreate the cage myself. I want it to be exact. Mike's is sweet, but the original cage used different diameter rods for the vertical beams than the horizontal beams. Also, the cross brace behind the seat goes from upper corners down to the chassis. I also want to include the black lexan/plastic? that comes down from the cage to the chassis.

The bad thing is that I've never bent aluminum or steel rods and haven't welded anything either  :? :D

I know Mike used steel rods, but since I've never welded anything I figured I could use aluminum rods and solder them. I could be sounding like a complete ass right now. I'm open for suggestions, tools to use, etc, etc
Use brass and silver solder, it will be easy!

Yeah, brass bends like butter! If you have a slab of aluminum or steel, you can drill a couple 1/8 or so holes and put in a couple pins, use them to bend the brass. Higley made a "nut" shaped piece like this for bending piano wire, it is very handy

Hey, sorry we couldn't get together in Halifax! I've moved to Alberta a couple months ago. Say hi to the guys into Mighty Small Cars for me if you go there. I didn't get to say good bye, maybe I should email them. I figured they would figure it out when I didn't show up past a few weeks.
No worries! I didn't get moved out here until early August but didn't get really moved in until early September. I'll have to swing by there, but not until I've got a couple of pay cheques behind me

Doug did a few of these replica bodies and he made the decals also. It would make replicating this car a bit easier. I was lucky enough to get one of his one off's. He was testing the decal masks and came up with this.

Thanks Sho! I have Reg sporting me one of Doug's decal sheets. I'm going to paint the body myself and I'm going to include the stripping on the roof and pin striping. On a side note, Doug does amazing work. I love all of his paint jobs.

Might as well post a pic of Doug's decal sheet. It's missing the roof decals...a Pennzoil, Simpson decals and also a Heuer decal on the hood. Too bad he didn't manage to get all of them on one sheet.

I know I should know this, but those are proline knobby front tires 1.5?

It's on the list to get if anyone has a pair they are willing to part with.

easier to find than the 1.5's, and usually much cheaper too. people can't put "jay halsey 85 worlds replica" in the title and ask $20 more for them.

both sizes are on ebay right now, so it's just a matter of $

duratrax also made that tire, it's almost a carbon copy from memory. there's a small hobby shop near my house and i know there's a couple pairs of these hanging on a hook. i'm sure i could get a pair dirt cheap compared to the ones for $30 on ebay. but it would depend on how exact you want to be with your replica.
