Glad you decided to keep it! I sold my first "real" RC, (Kyosho Ultima) that I raced back in the late 1980's, and wish to this day that I kept it. I think I sold it when I had gotten my first truck, and needed to fill the tank. I mean, it doesn't take up much room, and you would just get enough money to fill your gas tank 2 or 3 times? Hehe...

Tell the wife it's worth $40...

I would try and track down another body, paint the one you have, and leave the second one clear. This way you can have a clear one to look at the great looking chassis underneath, as well as one painted to, you know, look good!

It wasn't about the money really. It really came down to just space. Keeping it around would have taken up a spot better suited for a plant maybe. Like i said, i was just looking for a good reason to keep it. If it was just "some old car with no interest", it would have been gone. But in googling the past few days, i've seen there is still a very much alive following for it. So that convinced me to keep it.

I think I'm going to start taking it apart tonight and cleaning it up. I might resolder some of the connections because this 31-year old Engineer can probably do a much better job than the 14-year old kid that built it. (referring ot myself). I wanna get some oil onthe halfshafts and turnbuckles and other exposed metal and see if i can get the oxidation off it.

Since ending the auction, i've gotten a few messages with offers. Some have exceeded my reserve, so it probably would have sold at somewhere +$200

I think you made the right decision too. x2 on what Rod said with the box art body, I think it would make it even more memorable.

I'd have to get a sticker kit off ebay. I no longer have the one that came with the kit.


I was also thinking of just doing a red Mustang, or getting an HPI Saleen body and making that fit..or something else.

I agree with the box art body, this is what I have done with all the cars I have bought to restore. If the body was painted I kept what the original owner did as to keep it as a time capsule, if the body is toast, clear or nonresistant I go with a box art body or as close as I can get as my paint skills need LOTS of work!

I would take it completely apart then polish everything up and put it all back together!

Pretty much what I just did. Totally disassembled it, cleaned, polished and oiled everything up and reassembled. Just need to put the motor and mechanical speed control back in after I redo the soldering. I'll post some pics.

After a couple hours of work. I left the MSC and motor out pending resoldering some of the connections to make it look more "professional"

Does anyone have any documentation of wiring the motor? The motor has two resistors (not sure if thats what they are) soldered in from the two terminals to the can. I did this back in the day following the directions, but want to make sure it's correct when I resolder everything up nicely.

they are capacitors. Used for noise suppression from the brushes. Typically you use something around .1uF to 1uf, one from each brush hood to the can, and then one between both brush hoods. So three total. ceramic, polymer, mica, whatever you have that is non-polarized.

Wow, that is a great looking chassis. Almost looks unused.

You probably know this, but make sure you don't store the battery in the car. If it leaks, you will be sad...

Just in case you missed it before you built it, the suspension isnt mounted the same left/right. left is back and right is fwd.

Can you elaborate a bit on that? Noit sure what you are referring to.

How it's build now is how I built it back in 1996. The directions are long gone, so i have nothing to reference these days
