Re: RC10 out of storage at last
The T4 can have a 3 or 4 wire set up. I was faced with this same question not too long ago. The consensus was that the dual board and 3-wire T4 was a later version. Possibly even a newer style ESC wrapped in the old T4 case. FYI: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=36976.
Good luck with the rebuild. Its always fun uncovering a piece of your own past.

Interesting... upon closer inspection mine is a (was a) 4 wire model. I've got some replace parts ordered and some new speed control wire too.

Re: RC10 out of storage at last
Started reassembly, I cracked a front arm mount (second time this has happened recently) but luckily I had a spare set from back in the day. I got my bearing kit very quickly from Avid, so I managed to get the transmission rebuilt and put back together with fresh lube and new bearings. Still waiting on a replacement steering linkage along with a bunch of other stuff that will be a surprise. In that order is some replacement speed control wire so I'll be able to get that mess fixed up and rewired.
I couldn't resist throwing the old unused off road wheels/tires back on and snapping some pictures. I love this car.
All cleaned up

Smoothed off the nose plate

Almost re-assembled

Fresh bearings

Clean...finally!

Re: RC10 out of storage at last
Mini update time. I got the ESC rewired.

New steering bellcranks. The re-release RC10 classic version. I wanted it to be original and I don't really care about it being "vintage". It's my car, I can do what I want!

Next up is to address this crusty battery pack. I need a more powerful soldering iron first...

It's officially a roller! I'm at home sick as a dog today so I thought I'd snap a couple of pictures and share them with you guys.
Stuff to do:
- get the electrics mounted,
- get a vintage *looking* battery, I think I'll make my own pack from NiMH loose cells to run in it,
- source a better steering servo ()
- address body
Got the shocks mounted

Put the original sway bar back on it. Really glad I kept that and didn't bin it!

This is just brilliant. I love these time capsules. I still also have mine and it was also an almost never ran car. The hacksaw job was actually really good. This car must being so much memories back for you. I know mine did.
Cheers. Harold.

Great looking car. That is awesome you are getting to enjoy it all over again. I have my 6 gear CE that I ran as a kid that still has the dirt on it from the last time I raced it in the very early 90's..... I want to clean and restore it but I am just too sentimental lol.
After reading your post I might just have to go for it.

Re: RC10 out of storage at last
I have 4 old 6 cell packs (trinity 2000). They are used for my display cars. I only need 2 packs.
I'll gladly give you one if you want to cover shipping. However, being in Canada it may not be worth it though.
Here is a picture of the 2 spare packs I have. If you want one for the cost of shipping it's yours. The other will go someone else that could use it.
Thanks

Re: RC10 out of storage at last
I got a NICD battery from Amazon for about $12 and re-shrink wrapped it to appear a little more vintage.
Need to track down a replacement battery for the transmitter too, thinking I'll just get some cheap AA rechargeable. I don't intend to run this much, just a blast or two around the block and then it's going to live on a shelf. And by shelf, I mean safely stored in a box because I don't have any display shelves.

Re: RC10 out of storage at last
Well, I finally got the new body painted... and surprise! It's a boring-ass box art theme.
I felt like this being an original RC10 it really needed that classic color scheme. It turns out that I really suck at both decal application and painting... actually, the masking tape i used didn't seal the lines so i had a bunch of black bleed through. Needless to say that tape is now residing in the garbage.
I'm really happy this piece of my childhood has been given the love and respect it deserves! Now all I need is to get some transmitter batteries, and she'll be ready for a rip around my yard.
