Jake,

i think you can still have a 1 to 1 replacement, but it will cost you $73 bucks plus shipping and handling fee. you can try if you can have it for free
just tell thats its only one week old and also send the receipt. who knows lady luck might be on your side and give it to you for free.

Fill out this http://www.teamtekin.com/Forms/2012_SRF.pdf and send them an email for a SR# before sending the unit.
else they will not process your claim.

goodluck,

Well just dropped some serious coin on two new RS esc's with an 8.5 and a 17.5. They should arrive in about two weeks.

I will hang onto the buned one until I get back to the states and send it in for the replacement.

Even though I have let the magic smoke out of motors before, they never took the speedo with them....until this past weekend. Motor cogged a bit, went about 4 feet on the track and puff....thought it was the motor, but it was both.

Novak GTB2 - up in smoke. I bought it a few years ago, but hadnt used it but a few times, maybe 10 packs total. Still not sure how the motor took out the speedo, but had heard that before and discounted it as urban legend.

Live and learn :(

This is an old post but just had the same thing happen to me this wknd and cant figure out why. GTB2 that I've used for a year or better with a 10.5 in a blitz. Never had a problem with this setup. My friend and I decided to build a pure straight line speed car so we bought a 3.5 Novak motor and hooked it up to the GTB2. We hooked a battery to it to see if we had everything wired correctly. pulled the trigger lightly and it ran fine. Everything tested ok so I walked over to unplug battery and all of a sudden the esc burst into a thick stinky smoke. It got so hot it unsoldered the battery leads and the cap.

There are 2 different GTB2's evidently. 1 that only handles a 6.5 or higher and the other 3.5 and up. I found the box for mine and it is the latter so it should have been ok. I have no idea what happened. Any thoughts? It was a new motor. Dont know if it fried it too but Im afraid to hook it to a new esc anyway in fear id blow up another one.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck in this thread, I have smoked a couple esc's in my day.

I don't mean to pour salt in the wound, but I can't help to think about that one phrase that everyone loves to bash on......

Due to the nature of the hobby......

I've had some bad luck lately, in one week I plugged 2 different speedos in backwards and let the magic smoke out. (this was a little while back)

So cheer up everyone, we all like to smoke some electronics once in a while

HAHAHA, at least my two new ESCs are still running strong. I still have the smelly, burnt one in the box waiting to be replaced. I imagine it will make its way back to Tekin in the next few weeks.

I will always remember this stupid mistake, and I am certain it will happen in the future again.

As Rod says, make sure you are sticking it in the proper hole, if not it might get very stinky
