Got this the other day 8)

2 channel stick radios are a dying breed with the popularity of the pistol grip radios in the US & Japan. KO have stopped offering the Esprit & I think both the 3GR & 3VC from Futaba have been discontinued - so the Sanwa (or buy 2nd hand) was my only option.

I've always used a stick radio as it was 'norm' for combo deals to be supplied with a stick transmitter here in the UK - so I started with one & have continued to use sticks.... as such I just can't get on with a 'gun' controller (shhhh - I also think they look a bit toyish :wink: )

I've been after a new radio for a while after buying a Futaba 3GR a couple of years ago & not being happy with it - I always felt that there is a very slight delay in the reponse - I'm hoping this Sanwa is as good as its reputed to be.

It seems that whenever the online shops are re-stocked with this radio they quickly sell out - but I was lucky to get my one from someone who had brought it but had decided to give up the hobby so it was never used - as such I got it quite a bit cheaper than RRP 8)

I second that, hate the toy wheels, give me sticks anyday.
Shame the choice is so limited.

Exactly - sticks just look more 'technical'.... it just wouldn't look right if Doc Brown used a wheel controller :?

Nice, if they're good enough for the doc :lol:

Seriously though, the Exzes X is awesome, i've been using mine for about a year and a half. I especially like the switches on the back so you can adjust rates without taking your thumbs off the sticks.

I think that stick radios vs wheel radio is quite regional thing. In UK and Japan stick radios more popular than elsewhere.

If sticks were the same price as wheel radios I will swap for sure.

I know i'm smoother with sticks on the throttle as there is greater throw more so in the braking. Funny sticks were the go in the early days & wheels or pistol were only for the rich here in OZ. Now it's the other way round. When I raced in the UK I would often be the only one with a wheel. Like to see a 2.4G stick thats computerized & as cheap as a Fly Sky set up. I would change in a heart beat.

Hey Derby Dan how much for a new rx for that nice Sanwa?

Some really nice Losi's in the mail I see. :D :D :D :D

Yes the problem I have with a wheel radio is regulating the brakes - I just find it an awkward movement with the index finger & when you've used one type for so long its hard to try something different :| I also used to fly planes - where of course they are all stick radios. I think its the RTR cars that are obviously geared towards the US market that is altering the global 'norm' to pistol grip controllers. There are far more wheel control users in the UK than there used to be - its the old-skoolers that still use sticks.

There are few budget stick 2.4s around how about these from CODE;

http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php/radios/code-2-4g-fhss-lcd-2-stick-tx-rx.html

I must admit i've heard mixed reports from that brand in terms of reliabilty - binding issues etc.... i'd prefer to get a second hand top-end 40mhz set.

The radio set I have been using is the 3GR from Futaba;

http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php/radios/futaba-3gr-2-4ghz-fast.html
Image

Its a mid-range set - it does everything I'd ever need - but it does feel cheap & I've had a transmitter go down on me, that & the fact that i've never got on with the 'feel' of it means I wish I'd saved my money & gone straight for the Sanwa.

Oh - by the way RX are about £75 but apparantly a much cheaper Annsman is compatible :wink:

Well now that my Losi screws showed up I am a bit pissed at Losi.

I remember the screws being black, but this is 12 years later- OK I can accept "raw" aluminum even tho the pic shows black. Here they are......
Image

Wow...they look OK but very shiney. Heavy too. Hmmmm a little test......

Image

Yup they are STEEL. Damnit. Losi lies. You'd expect them to at least change the label :twisted:
