Re: IS "THE GALLERY" HURTING THE SITE??
tamiyaclub was what i was thinking, pics with comments on side .. just feel that b4 the gallery we had long threads talking about nice highend built rcs.. really miss that part of this site. alot of guys buy stuff built or built stuff b4 they got into the site so theres no need for a build post just put it in the gallery.. im just lookin to vent and maybe get some ideas ..Charlie don't surf wrote:I think that it's supposed to be more like Tamiya Clubs Showroom- and your right, it is a big part of the fun to comment, critique and in MrLexans post just derail it in general. But I can hardly imagine what Ruffys thread would look like now if someone wanted to view the actual cars! I think we have a "discussion" thread in that forum don't we? Couldn't it be used as one thread for commenting on any/all?

Re: IS "THE GALLERY" HURTING THE SITE??
There are a couple small issues going on the board right now too that relate to some of this-
This summer particularly, the site traffic and builds have been super slow- comments from members on the builds have also been very limited, either because now in the 6th year of 10talk we are starting to "see everything" that has or can be done. Or, there is reluctance to do a build thread because XYZ members stuff isn't as nice as ABC's so they don't post (which is nuts).
The changes in global economy, combined with the fact that the average age here is 37 also means family responsibilitys change more than they did say 6 years ago-
I still think a single discussion thread In the gallery would be cool-

Re: IS "THE GALLERY" HURTING THE SITE??
I think this is a great thread and topic to bring up. I generally don't have a problem with the policy, and since I am an obsessive compulsive person myself, I can appreciate the neatness of the gallery area.
I don't know if this is possible with the board format, but is it possible for each gallery thread to have a sub-thread/indented area that you could expand and that way others could make posts and comments but the original gallery thread persists?
The only other potential issue I see with the comments is many of us have car OCD and sell off things in the gallery, which would leave old conversations or posts stuck there which referenced builds that were long gone.

In my opinion the gallery is a great place to go when you just want to look at nice rides and not do any reading.

Re: IS "THE GALLERY" HURTING THE SITE??
When you want to see one of shodog's or Asso_man's cars for a reference what do you want to do search through all of the many posts they've done through all the years they've been here or go to one place where all their beautiful builds are displayed in one post on the Gallery forum. Personally I like it the way they created it or should I say designed it. A few comment posts in the Gallery forum by members have been a minor problem but for the most part I don't think we should try to fix something that's not broke. .02.

Re: IS "THE GALLERY" HURTING THE SITE??
Me personally I haven't been on as much over the past several months due to my attention being focused on buying a 1:1 vehicle, I'm also moving (after 32 years), on top of some other life issues, but I'm not going anywhere. I'll be back more regularly once things slow down.longboardnj wrote:glad u see the lacking of post too.. i was thinking maybe have people post a pic of car on the site then just have gallery to put all cars together. post a link in the gallery to where you can comment about car on the site.. im not sure if im explaining this clear enough let me know if anyone dosent understand.. im just trying to get a rebirth of the site.. i dont post alot of stuff but when i did the best part was seeing what people said after the post .Charlie don't surf wrote:There are a couple small issues going on the board right now too that relate to some of this-

Awe, your commission check for the gallery plug is in the maila01butal wrote:When you want to see one of shodog's or Asso_man's cars for a reference .....their beautiful builds are displayed in one post on the Gallery forum.

When we came up with Gallery section there was a lot of discussion among the mods whether to allow comments or not. In the end the "no comments" rule won out. It just clutters up the post with a lot of ego stroking posts.
If someone wanted to know more about your car, they could PM you or if they feel it would be of good knowledge for others, they could start a thread in one of the forums

Re: IS "THE GALLERY" HURTING THE SITE??
Especially a pre-1987 modified vehicle as anything before that date here is considered an "emissions exempt antique" which is what I'm after. I sold my truck nearly 7 months ago back in the beginning of February thinking I'd be able to easily find something else. Since then it's been nothing but a miserable experience filled with stories, lies, disappointments, and long drives to go look at pieces of junk. I've gotten so discouraged that I've just about given up hope.longboardnj wrote:i hate getting a vehicle what a pain ,good luckbuying 1:1 vehicle

The other problem is I don't have any specifics of what I'm looking for. I'll consider anything that tickles my fancy so it doesn't matter if it's a car, truck, etc... or what year as long as it's prior to 1987. But now that I'm moving to a place out in the woods I'm swaying towards a 4WD vehicle. I also only have a budget of under 10k which seems to be a contributing factor in being able to find something that's not a mess.
