Yes i did make it 1987 and run it on low profile foam indoors. And the fun thing was when a good driver drove it he was faster than with his own car. I am a not so good driver, but i like to build fast cars. 1988 i build one other Ultima Mid with carbon fiber chassis

I got hold of my very old low profile foam wheels, kind of dry and cracked

Do you still remember which parts you replaced to make the mid conversion work? I don't mean you should list them here. Just curious

I suppose it was easier back then to turn a gear box 180 degrees because brushed motors can be run backwards just by switching the wires. Today the mid conversions need an extra gear as brushless motors do not like running backwards.

If the brushless motor is a SL (sensor less) it shouldn´t have preferences for direction.

Very true Dennis. I have never used a sensorless BL system and I forgot they exist

That will be a very short list, after consulting the RedBox (lack of memory) i find out only one part is replaced.....hmmmm
and i can't remember why i did it. Must have gone in custom mode again....can't let things just stay like they are.
You made me take it apart and look........that's a good thing The original plastic thing fit...so blame custom devil.
The next thing is running The motor backwards.......electric motors do not know any directions.....lucky me back then.
I did not know the brushless motors know directions, no experience yet. So now i got to leave the hill for a tour to the hobby shop
and get a set of lipos, brushless motor and speed control....ugh. This little beast is going for a ride. o my god.....still got a family pack of gearboxes. This mission cant end well

When i started RC Racing i used to go with plastic bags as transporting method Result a trail of parts on the ground
Get small Box to fit all i need for a race............Ooh my world so much stuff I need a BIG Box...........If i get this much crap now what will the near future look like Order Two BIG Boxes and stuff them until i can't lift them.
So here it comes folks You don't need to be crazy in RC Stuff But it helps a lot if You are.

Could it be you made that alu part 'cause that's what's in the single picture of Joel Johnson's proto-type mid motered ultima?

and to correct : brushed moters are sensitive to reversing. First of all you need to physically change the the timing by turning the endbell about 15 ° and secondly you need to true the collector and put fresh brushes on if it's a moter that was run in the normal sense before, and then switch the leads , or turn the endbell 180° on top of the 15°
PS: I like how you used the mid front carriers, steering knuckles and wheels. I never understood why this wasn't a more popular mod in it days.

So many races with something missing ugh. Getting tired and cranky of missing parts. And i knew i got them at home....far far away.
Solution center kick in....if i bring it all i will at least stay warm....
Heavy....30 Kg or 60 LBS each.
The only thing they don't do is making good coffee
If i go to a race i can replace anything at least three times.........if that's not enough i go to a bar and cry.
