Kyosho Javelin Acquisition (what to do)
Re: Kyosho Javelin Acquisition (what to do)
I picked up a Duratrax Element 3900kv the other day for my Ultima runner, it should work great for the Javelin. It is inexpensive as well. I run a 19T Komodo Dragon in my other Ultima and Slingshot and the Element is much faster, I think I'll be dropping the brushless in the Slingshot for test run.

I have a 17.5 T brushless system i thought about using but it was for my RC10 Old/New car, I might just pick up a 13.5 Brushless system to toy around with lol

Re: Kyosho Javelin Acquisition (what to do)
I have been running a 13.5 brushless a lot in a Losi XXX-CR (not vintage yet) at our local astro turf track. I think a 13.5 is a very good choice for a vintage car. That would be my choice all the way. If you worry about the torque maybe you can use a smoother throttle curve on the radio (if possible).
Cheers

Re: Kyosho Javelin Acquisition (what to do)
My second or third RC car was a Javelin just like this one except mine had silver wheels. I quickly upgraded the body to the Optima body and got rid of the orange cage because at the time I thought it was ugly. Now I really wished I had it! I think the only parts I have left of it are the chrome wheels with very bald tires that I burned smooth on one of my hopped up Ultimas!

Very nice score, I have been wanting to pick up an Optima or Javelin for a long time but can never find one within my budget. I would run a run brushless in it just for the sake of easily being able to use li-pos without having to worry about a seperate low voltage alarm.

Re: Kyosho Javelin Acquisition (what to do)
Is this car back on eBay?
My first r/c was an Optima and I wore that thing out both at the track and on the street. I currently have a couple I recently rebuilt and I'm keeping 'brushed' motors in em. While I love brushless and lipo technology I find that it can rob a little bit of cred from these older cars. Almost soul robbing. This probably sounds silly to some people here but with prices going down on really nice brushed motors and esc's why not take advantage (I am).
I will most likely run a Tamiya Sports Tuned or a good stock motor, maybe even go with a 19t for a little more pace.

I'd love to have another Javelin. Back when I started out with my Optima I bought the orange cage because seemed like all the rage back then but it didn't take long before I found out how much dirt and mud it let into the chassis.
Someday I'll afford one again

New wheels and wing...off to the shelf...is what I would do...oh that is after driving it for a minute, but not with those nice tires.
