Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
@ Lars -
The short one would be for Ultima front. Not 100 % sure since I´ve never had a NIB.
But I have it fitted on my Ultima and it suits fine. The medium is for Optima front and Ultima rear.

Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
Hi Dennis,
thank you for that nice picture , very interesting fact!!
I need to see my cars more closely, this is like the play of "find the difference"
About bumper picture, I do not have it done, but I can do it, what do you need ? front wiew, upper wiew, bottom view?
I have new and used bumpers in the OPTIMAS and even some new in bag (OT-15)
or do you refer to OT-93 OPTIMA MID bumpers? I have also a lot of new and used ones.
just tell me what you wish and I will picture it.

Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
Finally I found time to locate some cars and shoot some pictures , unfortunately I did not found any of my ultimas, but I suppose they are same lenght as my tomahawk, so this came equipped with 10mm diameter shocks

The long one is the rear damper of an Optima and Optima pro
Do You have a picture of the Optima front bumper?
Thanks.
I suppose you refer to the optima mid bumpers, here you have it:

Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
Technically, there are 4 lengths of the gold and red shocks.
The 3 red ones are pictured, but there's a much longer one used on the Vanning. It's a larger diameter, but still uses the same shock end. Ituses an aluminum collar with a set screw to hold the springs in place.
As for the gold ones, the 3 are: short, medium (triumph front) and the long...however, there's an extra long version that was used on the rear of the original burns. It's the same diameter as the rest of the gold shocks....but it's fitted with larger heavier springs.

Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
I never had imagined that a relatively "modern" 1/8 car like burns could be competitive in it's class with 1/10 sized shocks in 1990's !!
Thank you for the info!!

Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
It probably wasn't...that why the turbo burns came with the larger diameter shocks. The extra long gold shocks was built a little bit differently than the standard golds. The shock shaft used a nut to hold the piston in place vs. the standard e-clip.SAND SUPER STORE wrote:I never had imagined that a relatively "modern" 1/8 car like burns could be competitive in it's class with 1/10 sized shocks in 1990's !!

Re: Length of Ultima shocks needed
hi highwayracer,
If you have some sample at hand, can you give us the length of those "new" red and gold sizes?
Measured hole to hole, so we can compare , please
No hurry, just to have all the info about shocks in this same post.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you Dennis!!
A danish digital caliper with detachable screen!!! ...mmmm... perhaps the meter connects via WiFi to the screen? I want one too!!!
10.2 mm??, ....or you have a unique top secret MINI-Z Impacta Baja ... or your caliper needs to download new software as the comma is not where it should be !! that is one centimeter sized shock!!
So we can agree that correct conversion factor from danish caliper to rest-of-the-world caliper is x10
