I used to have all my shells painted for me, but then I discovered liquid mask. Now, even though I'm still not brilliant at it, I get soooo much more satisfaction painting my own shells! 8)

I hate painting bodies, but will pay a fair price for well executed paintwork to my specs. WED Jim has done a few for me and it was worth the price I paid not to deal with it.

I wouldn't want to buy a pre-painted body. I consider it part of the car, part of the model & process, and it doesn't feel right to have someone else complete the model. It somehow feels less "mine", I suppose.

I agree with the comments about liquid mask. It sure makes the painting process a lot easier, much less worrying about overspray, paint bleed, masking tape lifting, etc...but I don't really look forward to painting bodies, either. My two least favorite parts of building a car are the painting and gluing on tires. :x

WED Jim has some awesome stuff. I've seen his stuff over at the RCCA forum I believe.

id rather decal then paint, but if i couldn't do either, id buy a finished body, so not to be discouraged over not having the ability to create one. on a side note, i can paint too

I'm with Coel...
The body and paint are part of the build. I actually bought a couple of prepainted bodies when I first got back into this hobby but fuond that I didn't feel right about it. The cars just didn't feel like they were mine. I'd rather put my stamp on it, warts and all than buy a painted body from someone else. That's not to say I have no appreciation for the amazing work that some of you have.

I look at it like building a 1:1 car. After you do everything you bring it to a body shop to get painted. That doesn't make it any less yours.

I used to always paint for myself... now that I am older (little more money) and want better I source out my jobs now. I find pretty good deals, always satisfied with the work- here's a few that I have had commissioned over the past year. Oh and I don't mind getting these banged up:

I painted this one myself... but I must have not cleaned the inside good enough and the paint totally flaked out after the first run... after that happened I haven't looked back!

I painted this waaay back in the day.
