Re: TamiyaClub
You can blame myself, Chris and a couple of other founding members for Tamiyaclub's no live eBay links rule. Chris, myself, Theo , Stu and a couple of others set that club up from scratch when Roby decided to take the forum from his site. There had been many problems with ebay links and arguments previously on other boards, so as a moderator on Roby's site I was keen to avoid confrontation on the new forum - especially as I am a moderator there as well. There are many reason's for the rule - and some that have posted here have been given plenty of opportunity to give some good reasons as to why it should be changed. Unfortunately the negs seem to outweigh the positives each and every time, or points for it are simply not posted.
I would have to agree that the forum on TC has taken on more of a "newbie" feel - but hey - the amount of hits the place gets - we are bound to get more of that kind of thing. It started off just like this site is now and grew from there - partly because of Chris's desire to have a "one stop shop" for all enthusiasts.
Not everyone is into highly polished, shiny vintage racers - in fact we are in the vast minority there. .......just that now some people are not getting the attention that they want and need at Tamiyaclub, so they are going to the more specialised forums like this one.
Gotta tell you - I hope this place stay just like it is - as it is really simply fantastic to be among old "race heads" that appreciate the classic race cars... I really enjoy coming here and hope to share some of my highly modded cars and classics - as they will surely be more appreciated here than on TC........that is not a negative comment - it is simply a statemonet of fact that the majority of users on TC simply dont "get off" on what floats our collective boats here.
Both sites serve there purpose well.
Cheers

Yeah, what he said.
I like the crusties over here. Sometimes I wish there were a few more old farts here like me who could actually remember more from back in the day. Lately, my memory has been mush, and my revisionist history seems to be slightly distorted more often than not.
I won't ever forget that Hot Trick was teh suck (Huffy of R/C), though.

The people who complained the loudest to get the ban are no longer around yet all are inconvenienced by the rule. I think it's silly when other sites like this and others allow links. In addition, the quality of the forums has dramatically dropped. I don’t post there nearly as much as I used to.
I agree 100% which is why I stopped visiting that site a long time ago.
The moderators over there claim the ebay ban is for other "innocent" reasons...but even they themselves admit that the #1 reason they ban ebay links is because they fear that their hidden gems will be revealed for everyone to see. That's very selfish reason!!
Read their reason #1 here: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=20337&view=findpost&p=122564

Re: TamiyaClub
Hi FifthScaleRacer - without wanting to get into a drop down drag out ordeal over this, I am a mod at TC and have been since the very start of the club. The #1 reason is not for selfish reasons - that is just the way Chris has them listed. There is no real "#1" reason at all - there are a large list of reasons why we dont allow them...... Personally, I very rarely buy off eBay, I generally trade and sell privately.( Although I have been a bit more active lately) I have no personal gain at all. Chris doesnt either - so that "observation" is baseless.
I think you need to re-read the reasons and be a bit more objective. I am still trying to work out Jims (Shodogs) comments - as I dont recall anyone screaming for the banning of the links at all - especially the moderators. I was probably the most vocal because I dealt with all the rubbish previously on other boards. In addition to this fact - all the mods other than Theo are still there!
No offence or malice intended at all mate - it is just that I dont like to see places/people/sites slammed because people don't or won't take the time to understand why something is the way it is. The rule is there more to stop the bitching and moaning for "bad sellers" and "dont buy from this guy" - "wow - this is a great buy", type posts that pollute most boards that allow them. It is not that we don't want to help people - it is that we are trying to protect club members, sellers and buyers on aBay from being unfairly slammed because of a misguided comment. At the end of the day eBay has their own forums for moaning - and that should be where complaints and problems should be taken.
Cheers

Re: TamiyaClub
Darryn, if I remember correctly (suffering from CRS) there was a member who posted a link to a misnamed auction. Some other member piped in that he was watching that auction and a big thanks for outing it. A big e-argument ensued and in the end, live links were banned.
I think the ban is silly because you point out a certain part someone needs or you can't call to attention a great deal just like Jay did on the CatXLS auction
Sure you get the hey look at this ridiculous price or the check out this pile of junk but those just add to the entertainment of the forum.
If a seller gets pissed and joins the forum to defend themselves, I say they just need to grow a thicker skin.
I have to agree with Robotnik that the quality of forum content on TC has gone way down. The old timers have left. And eventhough DJTheo pissed me off a few time, i still valued his input on subjects but sadly he is gone also.

Re: TamiyaClub
Mate (Preston)- I dead set agree with you there. Unfortunately, along the way , TC has gotten to be an EXTREMELY large and the forums have most definately become more of a "newbie" hang out rather than how it used to be. It has certainly gotten more commercial - but you cant blame the club for this. It is successful because it is doing something right. What wee consider boring old hashed over conversations is gold for TC newbies. There are still more than a few knowledgeable people there (Terry SC being one obvious one) that are only too happy to share their knowledge. Its a very large club with alot of posts and people craving attention to their particular problem......
Having said that - I would encourage the admin on this forum to keep a tight reign on membership here. While it may not be fashionable or politically correct to have what is essentially a "club for the boys only" - this place is GOLD for freaks like us that really just admire the hard core racing gear etc. I was just talking to Jay on this very subject. I have only told a select few of my friends about this place - not because I dont want this place to grow -= but because I would hate to see it become to commercial.
If I dont stop now - I will never stop typing and will bore you all to death. This place is just what I like - plenty of knowledgeble people having (for the most part) intelligent discussions about our passions. I still love TC and will always support it - because it is a different thing altogether.
Cheers

Re: TamiyaClub
HEY PRESTON - what happend to your post? You had some very good points there mate!
Jim - I wont go into a debate over the why's and why nots - as it really is just not productive. You make my point for me though - why should a seller have to join to defend themselves? It is not for us to say "get a thicker skin".......we are not the eBay police!
Again - we could go over and over the resons why and why not......just not worth it.
I will say that both sites are very different.
We should simply respect the rules of both places and enjoy them for what they are and the different positives and services that they provide.
Cheers

Re: TamiyaClub
Hi,
Sorry to have deleted it, I didn't realise there were some valid points and I thought I was quick enough that no-one would have read it, least of all been replying to it.
I was trying to avoid getting into an arguement really, although I said nothing I meant as arguementative.
I liked TC from what I saw when I lurked, but when I joined it wasn't the vintage RC paradise I was after. I've found that at RC10talk and don't feel the need to say anything bad about other forums.
Carry on.
Cheers
Ed

Hey Ed - you will never get an argument from me mate - I am no keyboard warrior.
As I said - I LOVE this place the way it is and respect the rules.
I also love TC for what it has to offer as well......two very different animals - but both enjoyable.
All smiles here!
Cheers

Re: TamiyaClub
I think the whole point is by banning all live links it stops all the arguments that were on there and everything is kept friendly. By saying that you can post links to some and not to others leads to the same sort of argument when someone posts something non r/c in the showrooms and it gets deleted, then trawls through the showrooms looking for anything to show it shouldn't have been deleted because someone else has put something up that hasn't been deleted because they were missed by the mods.shodog wrote:Darryn, if I remember correctly (suffering from CRS) there was a member who posted a link to a misnamed auction. Darryn does have a point that no one has come up with a valid reason why live links should be allowed (especially considering it would be full of "look I've found this Hornet" type posts!) which is why they haven't changed the rules.
Those are the rules Chris wants and it is his website, surely everyone can respect his wishes. I'm also a member of other sites, including a UK crawler site that won't let you acknowledge rccrawler.com exists never mind link to it and a site that won't let you link to an online store unless it's a site sponsor which the easy way to get banned is to point out you can buy cheaper from the US. Tamiyaclub is quite free from restrictions compared to most, but I'm not going to stop using the others because of their strict rules.
Call it selfish if you want but I must admit if I stumbled across a set of nice Technicrafts in a junk pile of buggy tyres I would be more inclined to just email Jim rather than announcing it to the world in rc10talk, rctech and radio control zone.I think the ban is silly because you point out a certain part someone needs or you can't call to attention a great deal just like Jay did on the CatXLS auction
Yep, the quality has dropped, mainly due to the sites popularity. The original site was just like this with a small bunch of well informed members. I left the same time Theo and Miramar did and there was a very noticeable drop in standards when I went back there.I have to agree with Robotnik that the quality of forum content on TC has gone way down. The old timers have left. And even though DJTheo pissed me off a few time, i still valued his input on subjects but sadly he is gone also.

I can respect Chris's mandate of no live links, doesn't mean I agree with it though.
Now if you do find those tecnacraft wheels in an auction, I am expecting an email
