the "original" rc10 had 1.9 fronts and 1.6 rears. if the ones you are measuring are 2.0 fronts and 1.9 rears, they're not the "original" rc10 rims.

no matter how i type this it's gonna come off like i'm being dick (not trying too), but next time be more specific....... post pics of what you have. how are we supposed to help you out when we don't know exactly what you're working with? it's been over week of this and only find out now that you have one piece tq or the 3 piece c.e. rims.

Hey no worries - I should have been more specific and gotten off my duff and just measured my rims myself!!

I do have pics of both sets of rims as follows:

Here are the current rims I'm using. Fronts are 2.2", rears are 2.1"

Here are the OEM rims I have (to the left in the first pic. I think the ones at the far right are CE front wheels)

Ahh crap, I just realised I'm measuring the lip on the rim too, but the tire would have to be a smaller inner diameter so yes, its closer to 1.6" inner rear and 1.9" inner front.

At any rate, I think I saw either some Duratrax 1.9" or Thunder Tiger fronts that would work and a Tamiya 1.5" Grasshopper rear tire could probably be stretched to fit...and as soon as I cobble some funds together I will buy a couple of options and see what happens.

those are tq rims on the car in the first pic. 2.1 front, 2.0 rear.

second pic (left to right) - (2) 1.6, (4) 1.9, can't tell what the black rims are, (2) 2.1.

other than the traxxas spike 2.1 fronts, there isn't much else out there. there's quite a few 2.0 options for the rear though. losi, schumacher, tamiya.

These will work for my 2.0" rear tires:

This will work for the 2.1" fronts, and there is a Traxxas slick tire as well:

So really its just the OEM rears that I have to try something else. I am going to keep looking...has to be something out there!

Look exactly like the ones on my shelf queen project:

Can't tell what the Frog Tires say on the side but on mine they say 'New Bright Super Gripper'

Second page there is a pic of rc10 rear wheels with Tamiya Grasshopper rear tires. So they DO fit. Awesome.

Apparently the Subaru Brat tires fit. Got some options now!

I was also thinking of using Tamiya Hot Shot 1.9" fronts:

I'm thinking those would look pretty good on the stock rims.

Hey everyone, thought I would post this as an update to my own thread for those of us interested in using your old / original RC10 wheels.

I finally got around to picking up my ordered Tamiya tires. I ordered one pair of Sand Scorcher rear tires and a pair of Subaru Brat tires. I was sure based on one of the above links that the Sand Scorchers would work but I wanted to try the Brat tires too.

What I found was that the Scorcher rears are as close to a perfect fit as you could hope for with a vintage wheel. I wasn't able to fit the plastic tire liner thingy in either case although if you were stubborn enough, I'm sure you could do it. So I just put the three other pieces on the rear tires and the fit is very very good. Overall diameter is almost the same as the original RC10 rear tires, with the width being identical. It did require a little bit of stretching but there is no noticible distortion.

For the fronts, I decided to try the Brat tires on the front rims and again, was not able to use the inner plastic ring, and although the width was a bit too much for the rears (although they probably could have been stretched out), they were also a bit too wide for the fronts. But once I had the rims inserted, and then screwed down, the sidewall pulled in nicely and I think it would be fine as a bashing tire (which is what we're talking about here anyways right?) What surprised me was that the overall diameter of the front tires was now the exact same as my modern 2.2" rims and tires. Width was the same as well - meaning I could in theory try these babies out and compare them to a modern setup. I doubt they would handle as well, but it sure will be fun to find out!

From left to right (above), you can see the size differences - original RC10 wheel and tire, CE edition wheel and tire, original RC10 wheel with Tamiya Subaru Brat tire, modern 2.2" JC Racing wheel and Pro Line Hole Shot tire.

From left to right (above), you can see the rear tire size differences - original RC10 rear wheel with Tamiya Sand Scorcher rear tire, CE edition tire only, modern 2.2" JC Racing wheel and Pro Line Hole Shot tire

I'm going to pick up a set of 1.9" Hot Shot front / rear tires for the TQ rims I have to see how they fit. Should be interesting, I will post the results here.
