I bought a Venom 2s 40C 5000mHa($74) with an Imax B6 ultimate($60), which I thought was a good deal, until I saw a topic on here about some more affordable options.

My brushless setup is a Novak Havoc 10.5($150).

For a Radio, I got the Towerhobbies 224 2.4Ghz($70) great radio for the price, and I have yet to drive it out of range.

Hey everyone, I bought a Castle Mamba Max Pro and 4600 brushless setup tonight and I can't even believe the power! I'm only running a Ni-Mh 8.4V battery but the thing just FLIES! So far the 6 gear is holding up but what I really need now is the 2.4 radio and some better tires.

Thanks all for the advice.

Just wait until you drop a LiPo in there  .

If you plan to keep using the 6 gear, you will need to stock up on idler gears.

Thanks - I do have 3 or 4 extra 6 gear trannies lying around so I should be good. What I really need is better control now - ie 2.4 ghz radio but more importantly, better wheels and tires!! Suggestions?

Like someone before stated, Look seriously at your Local Hobby Shop. They will be more than happy to help you support them. -Jeff

I have been to three of my local shops. First one I went to sold me the 1800 mah battery as an 'upgrade' to my ni-cd. Which I guess technically it was...but it didn't help the performance at all.

Second one I went to was better and gave me some good advice on batteries but when I went back to buy an ESC and servo, that guy wasn't there and the guy I got didn't know anything about electric, only nitro.

Third one I went to completely ignored me while I was looking at tires so I left.

I guess in these places you have to know something and get the right person but I like to be 'sold' on something.

I have pretty much decided on a Spektrum DX3C radio setup though.

Question: why do you need to calibrate the ESC every time ? Makes me want to go back to a simpler setup in a way. Sometimes it doesn't calibrate right and over the weekend I had to discharge and charge my battery to get the max power out of it because it was running rough and jerky.

I know part of the issue is the battery and I just ordered my castle link so hopefully it will be easier once I get it sorted. But even though it's way faster it's also more finicky

Be careful with the kv's and the esc choice on the ezrun systems. I bought a ezrun combo with a 60A ESC and a 5T Brushless Motor and the motor went real quick. I should of read up more on the setup I bought. Apparently, you need a much higher amp rating on the ESC for a 5T motor. I still don't understand why they would sell the combo on the site if it's not going to work but they do and I bought it.

After spending the money and failing, I bit the bullet and bought a mamba max pro esc and 7700kv motor. It was quite expensive but I know it works and it's silly fast. I'm a 100% basher. Never got into racing.

In closing, the ezrun esc is actually really nice. I just need to get a much higher turn motor that the ESC can handle.

get yourself a lipo battery, lipos are the single best thing among the new stuff, no memory worries, just make sure you set the max charge on your charger and the voltage cutoff in your esc.
