Re: 59burst's A&L trailing conversion
Re: 59burst's A&L trailing conversion
the shocks are 1.18 and with 1.02 shafts already. and the clearance is fine with one spacer for each rear shock. but, I still want "more" stroke (wheel travel) which is equivalent to my other runners. so I need to make the tower 2 to 3mm higher than this, then remove the spacers in the rear shocks. it's not for bumps or jumps. but for better handling at the corners. but who knows. it's already looking good and I'm lazy to move my butt for making a new tower. even I'm not a good racer at alllosiXXXman wrote:Hey that's a cool idea on redrilling the stock rear tower. I have been interested in a trailing arm conversion, but have not picked one up yet. Using the stock tower was something I wanted to try - nice to see that it works beforehand! Just a thought though, if the taller A&L tower for the trailing kit uses the stock rear length (1.32body/1.02shaft) shocks....couldn't you use the 1.18 shocks with the stock RC10 tower and the trailing arms? I don't think you would need a further shorter tower. Does that make sense?
and, thanks for the stiffener info Rich
Re: 59burst's A&L trailing conversion
got an epoxy sheet for making the stiffener. but have changed my mind and started to make a rear tower for 1.18 shocks and finished it

I think he is handcrafting all of them! Very nice project there, I ran a similar set up for quite a long time and ended up replacing everything with stock parts. The trailing arms are for sure different, but I had a hard time setting the rear end and especially the shocks to work properly. Can't find the thread back...59burst wrote:I was wondering what's the tools for your custom shocks towers? CAD and machine?m_vice wrote:nice job on this, looks very cool.

The issue with most TA suspension designs is the wheel rate curve as the suspension compresses I think... looking at this one it accelerates (which is fine) and then slows down (which isn't) Let alone wheel base changes, and scrub angles with that kind of rear toe...Asso_man! wrote:I think he is handcrafting all of them! CAD, Hand saw with jewelers saw and Dremel.59burst wrote:I was wondering what's the tools for your custom shocks towers? CAD and machine?m_vice wrote:nice job on this, looks very cool.
what are you using? drill and then dremel?
This is my project, but I did something different on the rear towers (same shock location).

pretty much same with you. but my dremel motor burned years ago. and didn't get it fixed yetm_vice wrote:

but the difference is.. I never tried that complicated shapes you did. I can do such a simple job like this tower. even I ruined the first tower today
have been watching your nice build tread, and still got a question. where the servo mounts came form? I couldn't find that thick and strong one

Re: 59burst's A&L trailing conversion
Technically any servo mounts would work any aluminum ones like mine or even plastic ones. I got mine on the Bay.

I remember the tread with comcom (FL) tub right?Asso_man! wrote:I ran a similar set up for quite a long time and ended up replacing everything with stock parts. had to read some articles to understand what scrub angle was.Lonestar wrote: The issue with most TA suspension designs is the wheel rate curve as the suspension compresses I think... looking at this one it accelerates (which is fine) and then slows down (which isn't) Let alone wheel base changes, and scrub angles with that kind of rear toe...
but I can't still understand this part "looking at this one it accelerates (which is fine) and then slows down (which isn't)"
can you tell me more on this?
thanks for the servo mounts info, Miguel
