Is that a slipper on the MIP transmission, homemade?

I think that it's the large MIP Tork Control unit-

Ruffy, not sure about the slipper. I'll go with what Reggie said. It looks to be factory MIP.

Here are some pics of it basically complete. The wheels will eventually be changed to a set of vintage pro-lines (when I can find some).

Wow, love it!!! my only complaint is that I have a buddy looking for that motor and he's going to be upset when he see's this.

Love the balance of the colors and the car itself!

wow! too cool. Funny, I just posted in a mid-motor conversation and made note of that motor. I have the motor, not the car. I have a long way to go!

Let me know if you need another left arm because I have one I don't use much but to scratch butt, will trade.

Wow! This brings back some memories! I actually was "Advanced Racing Products" back in the late 80's. I was just 19 selling these out of my parents garage. I sold about 500 to 600 of these kits before shutting things down about a year or two later. The original kit was a much less sophisticated design. That kit sold for $69.95 and there were probably less than 100 ever sold. My friend Donnie was actually the brains behind this design and he also machined the all the parts. Composite Craft in Florida made special made the carbon fiber chassis for me, and later I just bought the material from them and Donnie machined those too. The kit consisted of a CF chassis, bulkhead (aluminum), transmission brace (aluminum), shock tower (fiberglass), and gear cover (lexian). Unfortunately, I did not have the expertise to create a new gear cover that fit correctly, so I just included an aftermarket JG gear cover that could be trimmed to "kindof" fit. Towards the end, a customer from Wichita Kansas, who worked with plastics by trade, made and sold a gear cover that fit the kit perfectly.

The kit worked really well compared to the home-made ones that I would often see. Most of the home-made ones reversed the rear A-arms which would actually cause the rear tires to "toe-out" instead of keeping the proper "toe-in" of the RC-10. $90 was a lot of money, but keep in mind that just a CF chassis back then sold for almost this much.

Those were some great times. I lived and breathed RC racing back then. Great times indeed!

Neat story Jim. Welcome to the forum! My friend Barry had a similar story. He started Bullet Racing when he was around 22ish or so and then Raborn Racing a few years later after Bullet. He too had his chassis and other graphite parts made for him by Composite Craft. He purchased many things from other sources. His Bullet slider style drive shafts were nothing more than Losi JRX2 drive shafts that he bought directly from Losi that he repackaged. Many of his suspension arms pieces he made by hand for the initial pieces and then sent the hand made pieces off to the same company that molded all of the plastic parts for AE for the RC10. Later on at Raborn Racing he did much the same thing by using other companies that already made parts for larger manufacturers. The gear diff in his belt drive used Ultima diff parts that he bought from Kyosho. I think it was really neat that someone in the late teen's/early 20's could make a functional business with so little in the way of resources like we have today.

I'm interested in the MIP transmission also. If you happen to have photos of the top shaft parts I'd like to se them. Looks like I have the same SP-1 set up, just missing the "tork control" rings I think? -Kevin
