Took the car out for a long run test at a local church parking lot. I thought my JR XR2i would have better range, but after a couple runs I lost reception at just maybe 100' and boom ,bang ,pow ,hit the curb. Broke the front a arm right off.

Any suggestions on better radio. I cant afford this happening often. I was thinking a Futaba 3pl, or 4pl?

If you don't want to spend much hobbypartz has some 2.4ghz flysky radios that work really well. Although if you want function and very good quality get a Futaba.

Have you or anyone else used these

I am using one of the cheap flysky 2.4 radios. I picked up an extra receiver and run both my 10's off of it now. Seems to work fine although I have not gone for any long range. It does have a fail safe though so if you loose signal it will stop.

thats strange, i have been using a jrxs3 for years and years now, without problem. had it on a T-maxx and you could literally run it till you couldnt see it, and remain in radio control. then yesterday i had it on a rc10 graphite and lost radio signal 50 feet away same receiver / radio combo. maybe the synthesized dials are off slightly? reguardless my friend also had had a malfunctioning jr system in the past few days. maybe its a conspiracy to make us buy new equipment, like they send out a ''kill wave'' of some kind that disables our loyal radios

That flysky sounds like a killer deal may give it a try. My cousin used a jr just like mine for years with no problems, but I cant seem to get any kind of range out of mine. It gets about 100' and then starts to glitch and any farther it just takes off on its own. Im starting to wonder if the local power lines have anything to do with it.

I had a mx-3 that glitched a lot, the new 2.4ghz radios do away with that for the most part. Well I've had no problems with it and haven't heard of any stories.

Whats the skinny on brushless, think thats my next step. Im gonna order that flysky at 35 bucks cant loose. I want to get the radio in order before I get to much speed, and it goes off down the street somewhere.

my take on brushless is this, update motor $, update esc $, update to lipo batteries $$, update to lipo cutoff $, update to lipo battery charger $$$ and do all this just when i can finally afford all the ''vintage'' brushed ESC's i used to drool over....

Yea I'm suffering that same dilemma. Im still debating the brushless issue, but I get this radio issue fixed.

Recently I found you can get Novak brushless esc's for pretty cheap. For example I paid $40shipped for a nice GTB with all the documents and the extra stuff it comes with. After that I found a Losi 17.5 motor for $20 which works fine. You might want to get a new motor, but if you're in a pinch a used one works too. But it's not that big of a money thing if you play it right. Also you don't need a lipo cutoff with most new esc's.

For batteries you can go back to HobbyPartz, they have Gens Ace batteries which are a very good deal. Most tests rank them above most other 40c batteries which is excellent since most other 5000mah 40c batteries are at least 2x the price. Plus they're ROAR legal and all. Li-po chargers aren't too expensive and you don't need to spend a ton to get the same charge, ni-mh batteries benefited from a better charger, but li-po's don't really know the difference. So between $50-$100 for something to last a long time.

The big benefit of all the new technology is the ease of use, brushless motors don't wear out like brushed motors did (they wear out, but it takes a long time), li-po's last many cycles and don't lose their edge after so many charges, plus you don't have to constantly tweak everything to be the fastest.
