morpheus2010 wrote:Just bought an Etronix Pulse EX3GPro FHSS Stick Tranny for indoor racing, Can't say there were any issues. Simple to install and setup (bind) Several of the club members use them and I did ask if any problems, all said okay and easy to use. So bought one.
The Manual is a bit brief in explaining function settings. I needed to slow my steering to reduce oversteer and one of the club lads showed me how. Its easy and made for smoother control.
My experience of radio problems usually comes about from poor wiring, shoddy battery plugs etc, why oh why do manufacturers still use Tamiya connectors which get hot and cause spikes. Also DSSS sets are prone to slow response if interference interrupts transmission.
Will keep you posted, Going to start outdoor racing soon so plenty of variety to test the reliability.
Keep them thumbs twitching.
THX for that update, I still driving with my now 19 years old Futaba! The alternative I so buy a $200 more expensive stick radio!
The update on my site is not so cheerfull I'm affraid.
I've upgraded it with a 3S lipo battery and now don't have any range issues anymore... but then I found out that the servo was responding a bit jerky: as if itonly had 5 rso steps for it's full travel one way. Unfortunately I found out on big race that the servo wasn't the issue. Even with the fresh installed savox, centering was sometimes off and the steeringresponse was just unpredicatable.
When I took the servo out I found that it did not respond anymore as i moved passed beyond 50% of the joystick travel to the right.
Testing with another servo showed the exact same.
I ended up spraying some cleaning alcohol on the potentiometer that hides behind the stick...and solved that issue. But by doing this I must have put some static into the digital stuff: the + button in the navigation beeps, but the settings don't respond when I try to increase any value or try to navigate upwards in the menus.
I'm thinking of maybe trying one of the conversion kits that let you convert a 40FM radio to 2.4G. I'm just not sure if I want to go back to the limited adjustability of my old radio. Adjustable steering rate, L/R endpoint adjustment, limiting the top speed... pretty handy stuff. The only thing the old FM radio had was reversal
Just ran across these. Looks like Team Associated's trying to make the most out of their SC10/RTR plan. Tower shows the brushless versions at $225/$230.
Everyone else has it, so there's really no need to bother. That's what I told a friend of mine who was reluctant to start racing because he didn't have one. No one I can think of(including me)runs an AM/FM radio at my track. Or PCM(although I would...

Personally I have had no problems with the Traxxas Link system. I have three transmitters (me & 2 kids) and have bought receivers for every buggy we run. I had no problem setting them up, but I am not looking to set exponential steering or anything...
I have a couple olderAirtronics mx-3 radios and I was wondering if anyone has seen a 2.4 conversion for them? I always loved this radio abs I'd love to convert it too continue using it for racing.
I have a couple Futaba Magnum Jrs. I really like them. They just have the right feel to them in my opinion. Is it possible to convert these to 2.4ghz?
Or convert any of the older radios for that matter?

post your build thread.. sure guys on here will follow..
Time for my yearly post, oh geez
So I have been itching to do a completely period-correct racer -runner, one with all old Novak bits and an o.g. Reedy Modified motor.
Now for obvious reasons the old radio stuff is not very practical these...

Cell phone interference!
Am using an ol' futaba s28. For my purposes (light parking lot runs), it works fine!
Purchased an additional Associated XP TRS401 receiver from ebay, antenna is cut to about half original length. Is that a no-no with these like the older 75MHz stuff?

I don't own that particular model, but the 3 2.4GHz receivers i have all have about a 5-8 inch long antenna. Came that way straight from the box. But like suggested, do a range test, or have a very trusted Fail Safe if its a nitro.
I have a tidy old Futaba Attack R 2channel 27Mhz(bought new in 1987)that I'm
wondering if it can be converted to 2.4Ghz?
I know there are DIY sets out there, but they all seen to be used on 35 & 72Mhz PCM sets.
Has anyone had a go at doing one of...

did mine on a 27MHZ KO EXII set. Do some research first so that you will know what your getting into. Mine I used FRsky, should you go on that path, get the one with the telemetry as it has solved the servo Gitter problem. good luck.
Forgive me if this has been covered before. I did some searching but couldn't find the answer.
I recently dug up my old cars and purchased a new 2.4ghz setup. I'm not sure how to situate the dual antennas of the receiver.
As always, any help...

I agree, the vee arrangement seems logical.
My antenna leads are parallel and vertical. I typically run my cars on a track in the back yard so I've never actually tested the range. Occasionally, I will run my cars at a large church parking lot and...
