I very slight ream with the dremel on the Losi sliders and a spare old antenna tube to use a pin cushion stock....well, the pics speak for themselves.

No travel issues to note:

Just a note from a guy who tends to rush things...make sure you have 2 sets of buggy sliders when modifying...not 1 buggy and 1 truck

The Losi carriers are narrower than the Traxxas carriers, so one single shim is all that I used, now I can adjust wheel base by 1/8" or so (maybe 1 mm?). The rear carriers offer many camber link positions, but I chose the one closest to stock when I put the rear end back together. I have a few sets of sliders, so I will be making a couple more pairs to keep in the tool box as a back up, along with extra pin cushion material. I did use thin CA glue on the pin cusions, and plugged in a fresh 5000 35C lipo and did some free wheel revving. Nothing budged at all, but this is bench testing. Now with the right way to mount wheels, I can pick up a full set of Rulux and glue up the tires for our local indoor clay tracks. Then the real test comes....but I am still deciding on whether or not to toss the brushless (17.5) in for the testing. I like the stock motor in there now, but I would probably get walked all over by the boosted monster motors they call stock today. Maybe just a few practice sessions to figure out springs and oil/piston combos, and shake the dust off running buggy, been about 3 years since I used a skinny tire car :

that's a great way to do it as pin cushions. Maybe the universal sliders are different between a truck and car, but I was able to fit the male losi sliders in the traxxas female sliders with no problem, the splines looked extremely close and they seem to work nicely. doing it that way I used a traxxas u-joint at the trans, and a losi u-joint at the axle.

Super save with the antenna pin cusion!!!! That's trick, we used to replace the cvd drive pin with
weed whacker line to use aluminum diff halves

any traxxas experts or semi knowledgeable or hack like me.....

gear covers? anything else even close (that is available)?

I want to hit the track, but no cover that really fits (i have a hacked B4 rtr cover on there now, held on by a washer & electrical tape (i cannot stand it, and it doesnt cover very well).

They pop up on Ebay every now and then, and I am not 100% but did not RPM make some covers?

The RPM covers are for the rustler, bandit etc. Just a slight bit different but probably enough to be useless on a tcp. I don't own one of those covers to try, sorry.

Not long ago I did something similar with copper tubing, what a pain , and even more when I tried removing the tubing again when I decided to use other carriers This is lots easier and my MR-4BC based truck is very happy with its ultima axle carriers.

I did have to use the old polyprop cheapo antenna stuff: modern antenna's were too thick.

I did an edit above....I pulled the parts list and just happened to search on buytraxxas.com, they had the stock TCP gearcovers in stock...they also have upper & lower chassis plates and some other parts. I'm gonna stock up on a few pieces

No diff gears or idler gears though...I will have to hit eVILbay for those.

I believe the idler gear hasn't changed for a long time, so they should be easy enough to get.

the main diff gear can be replaced with a stealth gear as long as it's 45 teeth, which I believe it is, same as a TRX1. Lonestar has a thread about modern replacements and available parts for one of his TRX1 cars I think.

I think the hard part is the upper mainshaft gear, at least for the TRX1; it's something like 21teeth, and all the other trucks/cars now use a 22tooth. Don't quote me on that, it's been awhile since I looked, but I know the gear is 1 tooth off.

the top gear was available through traxxas still...metal though, not the delrin gear.

when i pulled the tranny apart, the diff gear is much wider than the AE gear, but doesnt mean the AE gear wont work, that is peace of mind though.

It is the idler gear which is one tooth off from the ones in their other gearboxes. I could only found one on the entire bay and bought that a couple months back.
The original was really shot on the car I got. Top-axle with gear was less of a problem in the availability domain and for the diff I found 2 which I bought both. Only later I read about the stealth gear fitting, so now I have 2 spares.
Were your diff rings ok? On mine there was a crack in one of the rings. Got new rings last week and they're on the bench waiting to be put in.
Unless I turn out another car before then my TCP will go for a 2-day indoor race soon. We'll see if it handles aswell on its first outing as the hotdog did 2 years ago at the same event.

I didnt pull the diff apart, it is extremely smooth and not slipper...dont fix it if it isnt broken.
