Urgh...if it were me back in the 80's, if I built an Ultima, I probably wouldn't even have used the main decals, instead I might've gone with a red-and-something paint scheme emphasizing the red shocks...or used an X-acto to remove the brown parts from the decals.
Since the decals have a lot of brown, who can fault the kid for painting it brown?

At any rate, it *does* look better with white.
This is an alternative instead of brown…

Green and red? Nice! Too bad you didn't finish that before Christmas, green & red is the perfect Christmas color combo!

It would look like a candy-cane.
