My B4 went up for sale about 2 minutes after seeing the 22 this morning! Looks they are planning a quick release too, none of this waiting 6 months to get the new car. The layout looks well thought out, common parts between 2wd and 4wd to make it more cost feasible in this tough economy. I wonder if Adam Drake will actually start racing electric again, he's been almost all nitro for the last few years.
It would be interesting to know who the designer was, looks like something Juuka Steenari would come up with.

Guys, a low-squatting design like this makes me need to ask a question. Every time I see the more recent buggies like this, they're all squatting down low to the ground and frankly it looks awkward.
In the 80's, lots of ground clearance was touted as a good thing for offroad buggies, as they were jumping, hitting bumps & ruts, etc.
So my question is, other than the "low squat" reducing wind resistance to a small degree, and providing a more linear alignment of dogbones/CVDs-to-gearbox, what are the advantages, if any? You'd have to use stiffer shocks to prevent bottoming out, and that's a disadvantage in itself. The truggies I see action pics of mostly all seem to be ass-dragging, nose-up-in-the air.
Pardon my ignorance, but it seems that more ground clearance is preferable for a jumping offroad buggy, not less. I must be missing something...

Old shocks were bad shocks and they needed more travel--shocks are so much better today than they were in 1988 is also a huge difference.. Not to mention the fact that so few tracks are truly off road anymore. They are smooth, hard pack and fast, and the cars don't need as much travel as they used to.
Put the power down, get through the corners as fast as possible and accelerate to the next corner as quick as you can. Ride heights that raise the CG are not the fast way around a track.

Very true. Also, most jumps these days have landings that you aim for while landing, (motocross style) so even if you fly 30+ feet through the air , you're landing on the downside of a jump. No more flat-bottoming on most landings. My favorite offroad racing isn't even on dirt. This was FastCats in Oakville: (untill it closed this past spring.

The mid motor configuration of this new Losi was
made for high bite tracks like that.

You think a turbo Optima with Gold shocks has nice suspension... put that next to a ZX5 SP with Velvet shocks, it'll blow your mind!

Lots of places have it for pre-order already, which is nice.

The loose target release date that I heard is 2.22.11. Maybe I'll get to run one outdoors next summer.

I agree 100%.
I think they will still do a truck version since they have done most of the r & d on the buggy, they wouldn't have a lot of work to do to make a truck.
I love the metal chassis idea and the mid motor option. Most racers add weight to the chassis anyway so if the chassis weighs a little bit more from the start the better. Plus I doubt it will be a lot heavier, there is so much plastic material on the losi chassis' now they would probably be close.

Is it an illusion or do the front wheels/tires look bigger like 4wd buggy fronts?
After watching the horizon hobby video, if they make a truck my T4 goes up for sale immediately. This buggy looks awesome.

I'm not so sure if the buggies do have any less suspension travel now? I think that it is purely the fact that the design of the shells - mostly fitting very snug to the chassis, with the shock towers poking way above that gives the impression of a low riding car. On my shelf I have a Losi TripleX sitting directly along side a Jrx Pro, both are set to a ride height that would be suitable for either the grass or astro-turf tracks that we race on here in the UK, both have almost identical suspension travel in droop & compre (the Pro has almost rediculous amounts of upwards travel on the front), but the older car looks much more upright/higher simply because of the design of the shell. As for the shocks - they also share the same design internally, its just the later car has threaded bodies & the Pro has non-hardened ones with spring collers.... the XXX shocks are still highly regarded by racers.
Will be interesting to see if the Twenty Two car does genuinely raise the bar performance-wise for 2wd off road racing. I will be using my CR2 I guess for next year, but as this is seen to be on a par with the like of the X6 & Cougar SV, it should still be pretty competitive & I cannot really see that the 22 can be
THAT much quicker

i have a b4 a t4 and ive been wating for a t5...i couldnt wait anymore so i decided just to get a t4.1 brushless rtr for xmas.. im sure the b5 and t5 are on the way.. thats how it works for me..
i do like the mid motor set up.. it seems to protect the motor.. good for me since i just broke a soder tab off my new motor on a bad landing (upside down and backwords).. if i had a mid motor id be ok
