Yes that would be the same guy. Thomas is a very handy guy to know (also a nice bloke too :D ).

The SG Coyote is not that rare in my opinion. Sure, there would not be as many out there as some Tamiya models but they seem to come up in kit form on eBay enough from time to time.

My journey with vintage r/c has was never born out of what value these things could bring me, I just want to live and relive all the great memories of these cars at the track from way back when.
Unlike today, so many of the older designs were almost disfunctional. Some worked well while others were complete flops. Personaly I like that a given car may not be as good as others. It makes me want to experience all the silly excentricities that come with them.

So my brain did not let me down :) . I can follow your attitude of thinking perfectly Jason. I am also not into collecting vintage cars because of their value or because their value might rise in the future but because I like how they look from a visual point of view (body) and how they work from a technical point of view. In both of these aspects the Coyote is ranking very high in my personal list. Their designers wanted to do everything different than anybody else and it worked out!! TTech came out with their Predator years after the Coyote with almost the same transmission layout and they did well too (in the right hands) 8)

That's good to know Helios.

I found this old article from our old Australian magazine "Radio Control Cars for DIRT & TRACK" issue Number 4 (Feb-Mar 1988)

It's really tempting to mod my car with better shocks and shock towers but I really want to hold on to the asthetics of the original car. What to do?

Nice car Jason! I was fascinated by these cars just because they were so different. I ended up getting this 4wd version in a lot buy with 5 other cars. The pics were horrible and the cars were all filthy so I really didn't know the condition until I got them. I gave the Coyte a quick bath and it turrns out to be very, very, lightly used. The worst part was the paint on the wheels which came off easily.Need to do a full teardown sometime and it'll be near perfect. Still trying to source a body shell. Interesting to note that these cars apear to be enormous next to a n average 1/10 scaler. Excuse the crappy pics, I'll get better ones up soon.

Another Coyt! Glad to see yours up here Gary. I am looking forward to dying my rims black as per box art. I have been contemplting tyre choice and have been considering Hot Shot type. No 2.2" modern stuff will be going on to mine

Thanks Jason :D. Awesome article!! I am amazed by the modifications (2speed  ) John Schweitzer from Canberra did to his Coyote!! Very coool! As for your car Jason, I would leave your shock and shock mounts stock due to visual appearance as you say (only my humble opinion, you don't have to listen to me ;-)

@ RedScampi: Very nice car too!!

Yeah I agree with you Helios. The only real issue is that the shocks attach via a small ball stud at each end and you only need breath on it for the damper to fall (its that bad) off. It seriously wouldn't make a lap out on the track. I don't want to detract from the cars original appearance becuse I believe it is important to hold on to the cars character.

There needs to be some kind of alternative.

And I am sure you will find a very good solution for this problem, Jason. Was not aware of the problem with the dampers only held by too small of ball studs. I am already looking forward too see how you solve this problem.

Jason I have always liked these cars as well, You guys are making me want one even more than before. If I ever do get one, my plan would be to get 2.2s on the car and make it a reliable runner. Maybe one day...

Hi Jake,
I have some contact details of a fellow who has a tonne of these kits plus countless spares and they're at a ridiculously good price ;-)
As for throwing 2.2" on this car, I just couldn't do it. I like the look of the kit standard wheels even though they are very primitive. Kinda what draws me to this car really.

Yeah SG kits are out there. Apparently this is just the tip of the ice burg from what I am led to believe.

If anyone wants the owner/seller drop me a PM and I'll gladly pass on his contact details
