Re: Non-functional Kyosho Gold wheels
They may be pressure/friction fit like a lot of the Kyosho aluminum wheels from back in the day.
I remember my brother-in-law had a set of TMS (T&A?) aluminum wheels on his Ultima, they (rear wheels) had no hex. The wheels had a tapered hole drilled in them. As far as I'm aware, all 1/10th scale Kyosho 2 wheel & 4wd off road buggies had 12mm hexes w/no pins..so they all fit the same way.
Due to the machine work on the wheels, the 12mm hex area wasn't necessary.

Yeah they certainly are considered rare but they do occasionally pop up on eBay just like everything else. I have a list of keywords I search for everyday which includes the Shadow, and I'm always curious to see what they go for.marui hunter 73 wrote:tsan wrote:I'm totally jealous. The Kyosho Shadow is one of the cars I had as a kid, and that i am trying to track one down now, to add to my vintage collection.Lowgear wrote:Now that you mention it I don't think my Shadow uses pins either.
Now that I think of it, I have the bones of an old 1/12 Kyosho Super Alta at home, and it uses a pressure thingy, just like the one in the Scorpion pic.
how's this for you???

I have that one in the link above on my watch list as well. It also answered a major question I've had about them. Mine came with a driver figure which I found very odd as I've never seen a Shadow with one. I posted about it here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?p=155545#p155545 The one thats currently on eBay comes with the same driver figure I have but unpainted. That leads me to the conclusion that the NIB Shadows came with an optional driver figure you could use instead of painting the windows black. Using it looks so much cooler as you can imagine.
The Shadow I have is in really nice shape but I wanted it to be perfect so I tracked down all of the parts I needed from all over the world. A couple of months after doing that and spending a lot of money, all of the parts showed up here in the US for half the price. Now to top it off I see reproduction bodies are being produced. Whats upsetting about it is the bodies were the most sought after part! I guess the lesson is if you want to own something that has a rare body make sure its a hard shell as nobody can remake those... Yet.

Dang, that would have been awesome, but it looks like they only ship in the US, not Canada.marui hunter 73 wrote:how's this for you???

Good find though MH, thanks! (Maybe I'll send him a message and plead shipment to Canada. )

FYI here's the Super Alta axle-wheel-biter-thingy. I imagine it would bite into plastic a little better than aluminum.

Re: Non-functional Kyosho Gold wheels
Well they just ended. I bid $46 as thats all I have at the moment. I have a feeling the person who won them bid really high. They would have been perfect for my project. Ah well I already have a rare set of aluminum rims that I'm told fit it anyway.
