Prepping a 870C runner - questions and progress.

the only other thing you can do to reduce slop is to ream out the hing pin holes and press in brass tubing, then ream to the desired clearance(if needed). I have done this in some nylon parts, and the hinge pins were 1/8". I used 5/32" tubing. I think the yok stuff is all 3mm though....so you would need to find appropriate tubing.

Reaming the 3mm holes by .2mm would make them a good fit for 1/8" hingepins , no need for brass tubing

moving from 3mm to 1/8" is a simple and effective plan......if you are comfortable with that.

but moving to the tubing moves the wear points to easily replaceable parts.....the hard stuff to find won't wear out unless you physically break it.

and the stuff i did was already 1/8", so I couldn't ream oversize.....

oooh, I just remember another trick: drill a little hole in the magnesium part, tap it, and put a set screw on the hingepin. now the only part which can develop slop is the arm itself.

By the way removing slop can make a car really twitchy and hard to keep going straight. Maybe it's better to try it first = as is.

The yoke looks very nice. What kind of mill are using running to mill your CF? I have some plans to do quite a bit of CF work on a couple cars I am getting ready to build.

I normally use a 4mm carbide end mill on a Sherline 5410 mill.

You'll love those Caliber tires too, I have some and they are my "everywhere" tire, they last forever too! street, grass, dirt. good choice for an oldie runner

markt311 - absolutely agree on the calibers. I find they are a tad lacking in side bite on our track but they offer good performance and outstanding wear rates so they are my current choice for regular runner tires.

Beautiful build you have there. Did you machine the alum. posts for the battery straps also?
