does anyone know how this car does with a brushless???
is it prone to overheat so bad that i would have to cut it up to keep it from mealting???
has anyone tried it???

i run my dirt thrasher (df01, longer a arms, larger shock towers) with a 4300kv ezrun.
i have the largest pinion it can take (21t) and it flies.
it wheelies at will and is way faster than alot of more modern cars that i run with.
so yeah it can take brushless no problem.
there is also an alternate gear set "tamiya speed tuned gear set". to bump up the ratio, it's no good for buggies though, it's meant for the touring cars.

awesome thank you kaiser i think im leanning that way i want to build something to keep up with my friends gas ae pan car hes to high and mighty lol i want something to shut him up a bit lmao i know others out here hate gas like i do its all about vintage electric

hey Vintage, there are numerous hop-ups for that chassis. If you want to put brushless in, I'd recommend you get an aluminum motor mount for it. The original Tamiya is rare but you can still see some on the bay for cheap...it'll help the plastic from warping. I would also recommend getting a nice fat aluminum shaft for that car. It's also on the bay for a cheap price. other then paying attention to the clothes hanger wire steering linkage...you should be fine with what you got. If you ever want to extend the shocks to longer ones, I have both the rear and the front plastic shock towers, brand spanking new...free of charge..including shipping. Just let me know....but you will have to get longer shocks though. I currently have three of these bad boys....with the skyline R32, Nismo Clarion Skyline, and the Blitz Supra. Use to have the Taisan Starcard Porsche but that went to a guy in Germany.

n2deep is right, the upgraded prop shaft is a must for brushless, i'm running an alloy shaft from yeah racing.
the other thing you need to do while running these cars with a brushless set up is inspect the hardware after each run or atleast each day. things have a habit of backing out; like king pins, hinge pins, upper rod screws, etc....
i'm still on the factory motor mount, but i haven't been jumping it. it's probably not long for this world. lol

good idea kaiser is it a mistake to use loctite on plastic (im not sure if it melt bonds like model glue) does anyone know i dont want to mess the car up but i want a little extra protection

i have used blue loctite on plastic before without issue, it was on a jrx2 though which has different plastics/resins.
not sure how it would work on tamiya plastic.
i actually just ordered some new kingpins because i lost one last week.
oh yeah, i just remembered, the dog bones are junk they have plastic ends that will shear off, so get a set of universals for it.

If I can be honest, the Ta-02 is not the best platform for a hot brushless set up. Lots of drivetrain drag compared to newer chassis's out there. Keep in mind the first ta-01 that your TA-02 is based off of was released almost 20 yeas ago in 1991. you could spend a substantial amoutn of money to upgrade it to bear the power of brushless but in the end your better off buying a newer more stout chassis. I would get a nice mild 17turn brushed motor and run the dog turd out of it.

U MAKE A GOOD POINT SHODOG THIS IS ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE A CHEAP TOY TO TEAR UP I THINK ITS GETTING BRUSHED AND ILL USE THE BRUSHLESS FOR MY WATS OLD IS NEW GOLDPAN PROJECT

One more thing to consider. Your ta-02 chassis is on the short side and with the right body mounts you could run the taisan porsche GT2 body

idk about that. i have been abusing my df01 for a long time, over a year with the brushless/lipo set up and the drive train has be flawless.
i've inspected the gears and have seen minimal wear. granted i'm not jumping it alot but it's been such a tough car.
i did break the chassis in the front where it connects to the gear box, but that happend long before i went brushless.
the new chassis was under 15 bux shipped.

well i ordered the s10 wheels for it with the bfg allterain tires so i think ill make a vintage jumper/baja truck with manual speed control and all im still not sure i nda want to build it fast for the street and show my friend vintage electric can be fast...

I base my assumptions off of the countless wrecks I've bought off of ebay in the past. I've seen some seriously mangled stuff and that was using just brushed motors
