Apparently the site has a 3 MiB limit for pictures. Does this mean 3 people in black suits need to assist? Or can the poster only own 3 mint kits with boxes? 🤣

Does 3 MiB mean anything different than 3MB, or is this just a typo? Not intending to be the Typo Police, just curious. Mega-incompressible-Bytes with Little Endian format?

3MB size limit.

It will also block several downloaded images. To get around it, screenshot the image.

Screenshots will also reduce the file size of images.

MiB as it pertains to technology stands for Mebibyte.

Instead of the board software using the more common decimal prefix for filesize handling, it uses the binary prefix for whatever reason.

MB - Megabyte = 1000 KB - Kilobytes
MiB - Mebibyte = 1024 KiB - Kibibytes

That makes sense, as I had some pics that were just over 3MB still load. I just assumed there was some tolerance built in.

That could be the reason why they went with it. Maybe it acts as a buffer of sorts.

Also, for those who are having trouble uploading images, one suggestion is to use 3rd party image hosting. With there being an infinite number of situations these days with what can access the web, it's impossible that everything is going to play nice with the forum software unfortunately.

any suggestions on a hosting site? Photobucket locked me out of mine years ago...

EDIT -- Ok, I figured out how to upload Attachments to the thread, but it puts them all at the end -- better than nothing!

Please try to use the built in hosting. Ten years from now those hosting services might be gone or pull another photobucket and we will end up with more pages of blank pics.

You can insert the hosted pics wherever you want, just click the ”place inline” button after uploading. Just insert that text where you want that pic to be shown.

After you attach the pictures, you can “place inline”. Once you get used to how they upload and place, you can go back and add your text between the photos. Use the preview button before posting to check your progress. Or if a photo is out of place just copy and paste the text of the image where you want it in relation to your build progress.

Hope that made sense and is helpful.

The only problem is there's currently no way to backup any of the attachments. The sheer volume is just too great. I do have an idea or two of what might work after researching it some time ago.

The problem isn't where to transfer to but how to transfer. You'd think our major hosting provider would be able to provide some kind of backup solution but they do not. :? There's been mumblings about it for a long time with them, and I was hoping to wait it out until it became a reality. I'd like to do it natively as trying to transfer a hundred thousand plus files from one server to a different one in another location has the potential to be a recipe for disaster. It will require 3rd party software, and the site being down for possibly an extended period. So to make a long story short, it isn't as cut-and-dry as it may seem at face value. Then there's the question of how to make subsequent backups after the initial one. Hopefully there's a way to automate the process somehow.

I remember Bill bringing it up years ago before handing things over. Unfortunately, the problem gets progressively worse with age. We're in quite the pickle with it as they say.

After Windows 7, I decided to stop using computers. I'm much happier after switching to Android tablets.

While I do own a Windows 10 desktop (wife's old computer), I don't remember when it was last used. I'd have to clear off the desk first.

Other than that, work is the only place that I really use them.

I'm still using Windows 7! The OS went to crap after that in my technical opinion. Unfortunately, I won't be using it for too much longer though, as I'll be replacing my current setup soon. It'll be running the Pro edition of Windows 10 which allows more configuration to shut off a lot of the garbage you can't with the regular Home versions.
