I noticed a couple of minor details that weren't around when that car was out... like the ti-nitrite shock shafts, mini 4-40 locknuts, and the dogbone rear shafts. That car was the first mass market car to use their plastic CV joints, and NO ONE swapped them for anything else—they were awesome for every class. If I'm not mistaken, those dogbones on the car now are XX-era.

Those batteries were long gone by the time the JRX2 hit, too. I think we were already running SCRs at that point (red).

Regardless, it's an awesome build. I'm glad to see more interest in the old Losi cars, whatever the project is.

The dogbone conversion was made by MIP(with RPM outdrives instead of the stock losi), the instructions discussed the axle spacing for h-arm vs 5-link suspension, so I assumed they were around early on. I'll check the pack and instructions for a date.

The batteries are actually quite new. about 3 years ago the local hobby shop opened a carpet track. They run mostly oval, but thursday nights ran road course(which I like better) We used these 1500 nicds in 4-cell 1/12 cars with p2k motors in a spec-class type setup.
The track has since closed, so I made the 4-cell packs into 6 and 7's for bashing, and have a few singles for glow-plug drivers.
I've been on the lookout for good(cosmetically) older cells. I got a nice red SCR stick pack in my JRX-T.

Thanks for the help,
-Anthony

I'm trying to remember when the H-arm conversion came out for the JRX2. I know Jack Johnson was running it at one of the ROAR national races, and then at the Worlds, but I don't recall the year off the top of my head.

Either way, it was a later aftermarket item for that car. I would guess that probably late in the production run, or very close to the release of the long WB Pro and SE cars, which still used the Losi CV joints.

It's one of those things we faced in BMX restos, where something on the bike was later than the bike, but that didn't mean it wasn't regularly used for that vintage. It gets kinda fuzzy with backdating of parts and aftermarket stuff. Like I was still using a Kraft 3PK AM 27-band radio in '93, which was completely out of date by that point. Old cars with newer parts were fairly common then, so there really are only a few odd parts on your car that could be considered out of date.

That sounds about right. Which means production versions would have been available around 1990 or so. Those things on his car were CRUDE! :)

The date on the instructions for the Mip bones kit was 4/92. no dates on the gold shaft packaging.
I'll post more pics when I get the next round of parts. Everyhting is ordered, just waiting for the postman. . .

I have a 3some of those 1500 SCR's, Stick packs, orion selected and matched, If I'm right.

I got them after my racing days, so they're not run-down.
(I only use them like 5 times a year.)
Send me a PM if you want pics

almost done

Here are the latest pics with lots of updates from the prior set:
short front shock tower with short shocks built just like the rear shocks, with rpm lower shock mounts with delrin balls and rpm upper mounts
matching front and rear original JRX-2 wheels.
Futaba servo with kimbrough saver and tecnacraft servo rod.
tekin RX,
PTI 1200 SCR matched pack
Wing
Body (thanks to Asso_man!)

Most of the above were NIP except for the battery. The body made me a bit nervous to cut. Using the RPM front bulkhead with 10 deg of extra caster moved the front body mount back slightly and makes it more steep of an angle, but I think it came out ok.

All I need is an esc and motor. I picked up a bunch of vintage stockers with the battery pack, I just have to clean one up and get it mounted.

The only RPM parts I don't have on the car are the shock pistons(I have a set, but they are not as smooth as the teflon losi pistons), and front spindles+ carriers. If anyone has a spare set of the spindles/carriers, I have lots of parts to trade.
Thanks for looking,
-Anthony

Awesome!! The JRX2 is all I need to complete my vintage collection. I'm going to build mine kinda like that, mostly stock with a couple decent aftermarket parts. Like, a nice early racer. Very nice Losi. 8)
